On Saturday night, Full Impact Pro Wrestling finished off its International Impact weekend with its return to Crystal River, Florida. This show featured wrestlers from England, Switzerland, Japan, and wherever Delirious comes from. Featured on tonight’s show was a Dragon Gate Showcase Match with Yamato facing Shingo in Shingo’s farewell match in FIP. Roderick Strong and Erick Stevens would defend the FIP World Heavyweight and Florida Heritage Titles respectively. What will happen now that So Cal Val has joined with the YRR on her return to the company after six months away?
Here is what happened at the show.
Seth Delay comes out and he gets on the mic. He talks about how he loves wrestling in Crystal River but he is sick and tired of the YRR. He makes an open challenge to any member of the YRR.
Larry Sweeney comes out and he wants to know if he is looking good tonight. He says that he is impressed by Seth’s spunk and energy. Larry says that he was partying with the YRR and they are too busy to deal with Seth tonight. Larry says that he did not become the ICWICWA television champion by being a dumb jabronie. He accepts Seth’s challenge.
Match Number One: Larry Sweeney defeats Seth Delay Sweeney tries to work over Delay at the start of the match, but Delay is able to work on the arm and when Sweeney goes outside the ring he is brought back in by Delay. Delay gets too aggressive in the corner and that allows Sweeney to take over in the match. Sweeney works on Delay’s back with a variety of moves. The members of the YRR come out to watch the match. Both men collide in the ring and then Delay with a clothesline that sends both men over the top rope to the floor. Sal Rinauro gets on the mic and he distracts Delay allowing Sweeney to get the three count with some help from the ropes.
After the match, the members of the YRR attack Delay while Sweeney goes to the back. The Heartbreak Express and Jerrelle Clark come out to help Delay. Everyone except Jerrelle Clark and Claudio Castagnoli fight to the back and we have our next match.
Match Number Two: Claudio Castagnoli (with So Cal Val) defeats Jerrelle Clark Clark forces Castagnoli out of the ring to regroup but Clark follows. Claudio tries to use Val as a shield on the floor and that allows Castagnoli to connect with a punch on Clark. Claudio works on Clark’s arm and gets a series of near falls. Clark blocks a suplex attempt and hits a rana and tornado DDT. Clark forces Castagnoli out of the ring and he tries for an Asai Moonsault, but Castagnoli moves out of the way. Clark is able to recover and he does hit a moonsault and goes up top and gets a two count with a cross body. Clark hits a wrist clutch belly-to-back suplex for a two count but when he tries to go up top to finish off Castagnoli, Sal Rinauro comes out and he grabs Clark’s leg allowing Castagnoli to hit a press slam and European uppercut for the three count.
After the match, the members of the YRR attack Clark. Rinauro hits Sliced Bread #2 on Clark. Sal then gets on the mic and he makes some jokes at the expense of Black Market.
The Heartbreak Express come out and Sal talks about the fact that these shows were called International Impact and he says that the champion is ducking the finest talent that Italy produced. He challenges Roderick Strong for the FIP World Heavyweight Title.
Sean Davis gets on the mic and he wants to know who the YRR are. He calls So Cal Val the biggest back stabbing tramp and then Sean says that he would never hit a lady but Val is no lady. Sean says that he will slap the taste from their mouths. He points out that the YRR talk big of the Black Market because they are not here. He tells the fans that the Heartbreak Express might not be friends with Black Market but after one and a half years of kicking each other’s asses, they respect Black Market.
Val gets on the mic and she says that the Heartbreak Express were not man enough for her.
Sean tells Val that they will challenge all four members of the YRR in a match.
Match Number Three: Chasyn Rance and Kenny King of the YRR (with So Cal Val) defeat the Heartbreak Express (Sean Davis and Phil Davis) The match starts outside the ring and the YRR go to the back but the Heartbreak Express follow them to the back and bring them to the ring. Sean and Chasyn battle outside the ring while Phil and Kenny battle inside the ring. Sean and Phil double team the members of the YRR and have control until Val trips Phil and Phil is sent off the apron by Kenny. While Sean tries to help Phil it turns out to harm him because the referee is focused on getting Sean back to the apron and that allows the YRR to double team Phil. Kenny tries to superplex Phil, but Phil pushes Kenny off the turnbuckles. While Kenny is on his hands and knees, Chasyn hits a jumping leg lariat off Kenny’s back. Chasyn and Kenny are unable to put Phil away and when Chasyn and Kenny collide in the ring, Phil is able to make the tag after reaching for the wrong corner. Sean comes in and he cleans house. Chasyn tries for a sunset flip but Sean refuses to go over and he drops down, but Kenny hits Sean with a chair and Chasyn gets the three count.
Jigsaw comes out and he says that he is the best masked wrestler in the world and he challenges Delirious to a match to see who is the best masked wrestler in the world.
Delirious comes out and he cuts a promo that apparently leads to him accepting Jigsaw’s challenge.
Match Number Four: Delirious (with Dave Prazak and Mr. Milo Beasley) defeats Jigsaw The match starts off with Delirious coming into the ring and leaving immediately after and then he is showered with streamers. When Delirious re-enters the ring, we see a pose down between the masked men. Jigsaw tries for a plancha but Delirious moves out of the way and they battle on the floor. Delirious uses Mr. Milo Beasley as a shield and then they go under the apron. Mr. Beasley comes from under the ring first and he is wearing a Delirious mask. Jigsaw takes off Mr. Beasley’s mask and then Mr. Beasley remembers that he is unable to walk and he collapses immediately. This distraction allows Delirious to attack Jigsaw from behind. The action returns to the ring and it turns into a three-on-one situation and Delirious wears down Jigsaw. Nigel McGuinness comes to ringside to make sure that there are no shenanigans from DP Associates. Delirious misses a move from the top turnbuckle and that allows Jigsaw to hit a DDT. When Prazak tries to interfere, Nigel’s movement towards Prazak gets Prazak to release the hold. Jigsaw gets a number of near falls and then Prazak gets on the apron to try to interfere in the match. McGuinness hits Jigsaw with a European uppercut and Delirious gets Jigsaw to tap to the Cobra Stretch.
After the match, Nigel and Prazak shake hands and then Prazak gets on the mic. He says that money talks for DP Associates and says that Nigel wants to challenge for the Florida Heritage Title. Nigel gets on the mic and he says that he wants a match with Erick Stevens so he can take the Florida Heritage Title and give it to the Queen.
Match Number Five: Erick Stevens defeats Nigel McGuinness (with Dave Prazak and Mr. Milo Beasley) to retain the Florida Heritage Title After going back and forth at the start of the match, Nigel sends Stevens into the ring post to get the advantage. Nigel continues to work on the arm but Erick fights back. Nigel sends Erick out of the ring and Mr. Beasley attacks him, but Stevens sends Mr. Beasley into the post. Stevens returns to the ring and hits a power slam followed by a choo choo and Northern Lights suplex for a two count. Stevens goes up top but Prazak grabs Stevens’s leg. Nigel hits a double thrust and DDT for a near fall. Stevens gets the three count with a rollup.
After the match, Delirious gets on the mic and he apparently challenges Erick Stevens to defend the Florida Heritage Title against him on May 25th.
Erick Stevens gets on the mic and he says that he thinks Delirious has challenged him for the Florida Heritage Title. He says that he is proud to be from Florida and the first Florida Heritage Champion. He says that he will defend the title against Delirious in Inverness.
Match Number Six: Shingo defeats Yamato in a Dragon Gate Attraction Match Yamato gets the early advantage in the match and he works on Shingo’s arm. Shingo hits a DDT to gain the advantage and he hits a spinebuster and gets Yamato in a series of submission holds. Yamato hits a spear and that leads to a number of near falls for Yamato. Yamato tries to go up top but Shingo stops him and hits a superplex. Yamato regains the advantage and goes up top again, but Shingo hits the ropes and Yamato is crotched. Shingo tries for a superplex, but Yamato pushes him off and hits a frog splash for a two count. Shingo with a series of near falls but Yamato responds with a number of near falls of his own. Yamato hits a series of German suplexes and a Death Valley Driver. Shingo tries to take Yamato down with a clothesline but Yamato stays up. Both men exchange a series of forearms but Shingo hits a clothesline and lariat for a near fall and then he finishes off Yamato with a pump handle Death Valley Driver for the three count.
Match Number Seven: Roderick Strong defeats Sal Rinauro (with So Cal Val) to retain the FIP World Heavyweight Title Strong gets the early advantage on Rinauro and they move outside where Strong hits an Ole Chop. Strong also uses the ring post and guardrails as he tries to wear down his opponent and get the quick victory but Rinauro is able to fight back and he works on Strong’s knees. Rinauro takes control of the match but Strong fights back with a number of chops. They fight to the apron where Strong hits a belly-to-back that drops Rinauro on the apron. Strong regains control of the match and he puts Rinauro in the corner on the mat against the ring post and Strong with a series of chops. The action returns to the floor and Rinauro uses Val as a shield. Strong tries to chop Rinauro against the ring post but Rinauro moves and Strong hurts his hand. Rinauro works on Strong’s hand. When they return to the ring, Strong tries to chop Rinauro but he still feels the effects of the chop to the post. Rinauro goes up top and he misses an elbow drop and then when he charges at Strong, Strong sends Rinauro onto the turnbuckles with a hot shot. Rinauro with a spin kick using the turnbuckles and flying knee to get a two count. Strong tries to finish off Rinauro, but Rinauro fights back and he hits a stunner and tornado DDT for a two count. Strong blocks Sliced Bread #2 and then Strong tosses Rinauro onto the top turnbuckle and Strong hits a fallaway slam from the second turnbuckle but he can only get a two cont. Strong hits a superplex but he can only get a two count. Rinauro gets out of the Gibson Driver and hits a super kick. Rinauro hits an elbow drop from the top turnbuckle for a two count. Strong and Rinauro exchange rollups for near falls. Strong hits an enzuigiri into a Yakuza kick and Gibson Driver for the three count.
After the match, the YRR attack Roderick Strong but the Heartbreak Express come to the ring with chairs and the YRR leave.
Sean Davis gets on the mic and he says that if they YRR want to get violent, they know a little about violence. If the YRR want to play with weapons, they have no problem with that. If the YRR want to take it to the next level with blood, they will do it. If the YRR have the balls to meet them on May 25th in Inverness, they want to face the YRR in an Anything Goes Bunkhouse Brawl. Phil Davis tells the YRR to bring their tramp with them.
Before the main event, a number of tables are set up at ringside.
Match Number Eight: The Briscoe Brothers defeat Mad Man Pondo and Necro Butcher in a Bar Room Brawl to retain the FIP Tag Team Titles Necro and Pondo come to the ring with a trash can full of fluorescent light tubes in addition to their usual weapons. Pondo and Mark battle outside the ring while Jay and Necro fight inside the ring. Jay and Necro go outside when Jay hits a pescado onto Necro. Mark avoids the stop sign from Pondo and he responds with a spin kick into the sign. Pondo sends Mark into the guardrails. Pondo gives Mark a snap suplex on the floor while Necro sends Jay into the ring post. Necro and Jay return to the ring while Pondo and Mark stay on the floor. Necro sets up a light tube in the corner and he tries to send Jay into it but Jay counters with a drop toe hold that sends Necro into the light tube. Pondo gets the golf club and he hits Mark in the groin area with it. Pondo brings the trash can filled with light tubes into the ring. Jay and Necro battle on the floor. Pondo sets up chairs with the trash can on top of them and he tries to superplex Mark onto the trash can but Jay hits Pondo from behind and then Mark and Jay toss Pondo into the trash can filled with light tubes. All four men return to the floor to battle and Necro throws a number of chairs at Jay. Pondo Irish whips Mark at Necro and Necro drills Mark in the head with the chair. Necro tries to use a piece of the broken light tube to stab Jay, but Jay blocks it and Necro with a head butt into the tube. Pondo goes up top and hits a senton onto Jay who was placed on a chair. A table is set up in the ring and then Pondo uses a cinder block on Jay. Necro hits a power slam on Mark from the second turnbuckle through the table, but he can only get a two count. Necro then hits a Tiger Driver for a two count. Pondo asks Necro which Briscoe he wants to beat up and Necro says that he does not care. Instead of a Briscoe, Pondo gives the referee to Necro and Necro hits an Awesome Bomb on the referee through a table on the floor. Pondo hits a piledriver through a table. Jay hits a JayDriller on Necro through a table. All four men fight towards the metal doors in the Armory. Jay and Mark take care of Necro and Pondo and then Pondo is placed on a table and then lifted onto a second table. Jay opens the door to the armory and Mark appears on top of a truck as he hits a frog splash off the top of the truck onto Pondo through the two tables and they get the three count.
International Impact Phase Two Thoughts:
While Friday night was a solid show, this was clearly the better show of the weekend. I don’t know if it is the fact that the crowds in Crystal River are the largest and most vocal of the FIP crowds but it seems like the wrestlers take things to a different level in Crystal River.
I liked the set up for the Sweeney/Delay match and I thought it was a good way to start off the show. Delay has built his reputation in the company while Sweeney has made a significant impact in the company during his time in FIP. I don’t know if this means that Sweeney will be a member of the YRR or if it is just Sweeney affiliating himself with the group when necessary but he would work well in the YRR, especially as their mouthpiece even though Chasyn Rance has done a great job in that role.
It seems like FIP has established a structure to their shows where the matches in the first half of the show seem to flow from match to match while the second half is usually reserved for the title matches and main event.
The Clark/Castagnoli match was good and continues the feud between Jerrelle and the YRR. The height difference was not a factor in this match. It looks like Jerrelle has re-established himself as a singles wrestler in FIP after the success that he had with Jay Fury as the Fast & Furious last year.
I thought Sal Rinauro’s promo to set up the title match with Roderick Strong was good and maintained the International Impact theme of the show.
Sean Davis had two good promos tonight and shows why he is one of the best in Florida at cutting promos. While he has given a similar promo about how he has respect for Black Market at recent shows, there is something different in each of them that keeps them fresh. The second promo to set up their match with the YRR in May was a bit surprising because you do not hear too many face promos from Sean but this was very effective.
After being heels for most of their time in FIP, they are now over as faces in the company. I don’t know if it is a long term thing or just during their feud with the YRR but it has given the fans a new look at the Heartbreak Express. The crowd was really into the match with the YRR and the reaction when Phil made the tag to Sean was one of the loudest reactions of the night.
The Delirious/Jigsaw match was good and I think they could have an interesting feud if it continues. The spot where Mr. Milo Beasley comes out from under the ring wearing the Delirious mask and he yells out ‘Milo Beasley’ only to have the mask taken off and then falling to the ground was hilarious. I hope they use Milo more in that capacity because he adds a lot to DP Associates.
After the Friday show, I was a bit surprised that Nigel would join DP Associates. In his first run with the company in 2005, he was used as a hired gun to try to take out Homicide.
The Stevens/McGuinness match was very good and continues Erick’s rise in the business. With Stevens recently debuting in Ring of Honor, it is logical for him to continue his streak in FIP.
I look forward to seeing how Erick will work with Delirious because it is an obvious clash of styles.
Even though Shingo was in FIP for less than a year, he made quite an impact and he will be missed since his match with Yamato was his final match in the company while he returns to Japan. His match with Yamato, along with the Strong/Rinauro match were the two best wrestling matches of the night.
Yamato showed a lot in his two matches over the weekend and I hope he will be a regular in FIP.
I think Sal Rinauro’s match with Roderick Strong was his best singles match during his time in FIP. I thought Sal established himself as a solid singles wrestler in the company after his success as a tag team wrestler. It was a good fifteen minute match that saw Rinauro get in a lot of offense on Strong and be able to fight off Strong’s signature moves.
I also liked how Strong would have problems with chops after he accidentally chopped the ring post during the match.
There is no way that words can describe accurately the main event. The Briscoes, Mad Man Pondo, and Necro Butcher outdid themselves in their match. While this match was not as bloody as the Cage of Pain match, it did achieve a level of violence that might be expected in Crystal River.
It is strange to be able to say that this is not the first time that a truck has been used in FIP. When they ran in Tampa in November 2004, CM Punk and Homicide brawled onto the truck that they used for the ring. If only there was a strip club near the building to recreate the image of a wrestler calling dancers ‘whores’. From where I was standing on the other side of the building during the final spot of the match, as soon as the doors were opened by Jay, you saw a blur come off the truck and then you heard the crunch of Mark hitting Pondo and going through the tables.

"Instead of a Briscoe, Pondo gives the referee to Necro and Necro hits an Awesome Bomb on the referee through a table on the floor."
Did anyone else read this and say "Holy ****"? I know I did. |

Rich, I love reading your reports!
On paper, Friday night looks stronger to me, especially with the Waltman appearance... but I'll have to keep your report in mind when I decide which DVD to purchase... because I'm taking your word that night 2 is the better show!

Both nights were solid but the sheer insanity of the main event on Saturday was what made that show better.
Friday's show had three very good wrestling matches and two strong brawls. The other four matches were good and with the So Cal Val situation, there was a little more 'drama' on this show than Saturday.
However, the final four matches on Saturday were all very good and built to the crescendo in the main event. The other four matches on the show were good.
As I mentioned in my thoughts, the Crystal River crowd is something special for an FIP show. To compare to other companies, Crystal River is the same as the Manhattan Center for ROH or the ECW Arena for ECW. |

The Necro Butcher in FIP regularly might just be the most important story in all of the United States for this entire decade.
Decade. |
