Channeling Chris Berman's NFL Swami act, here goes...

Nigel McGuinness will drop the title within the first half of the year.
Either Tyler Black after beating Jimmy Jacobs or Brent Albright after getting Sweet N Sour Inc. off his back, will be the man to do it.
Age of the Fall will indeed fall. Black has been booted, Brodie was a three night deal and Delirious is weak now.
Delirious will side with Daizee Haze and they will be the first marriage in RoH history. Necro Butcher will either be Best Man or Maid of Honor.(And no I am NOT joking)
Larry Sweeney will lose all of his Sweet N Sour Inc. members except The American Wolves who will win the RoH Tag Team Titles by year's end.
Bryan Danielson will feud with Necro Butcher in the ultimate contrast of styles.
Perhaps if Morishima comes back he(AmDrag) will FINALLY beat him in a straight up match.
Strong and Stevens will be tag team champions by year's end as well.
Mark Briscoe will return from injury and TURN on Jay and start the Bret-Owen feud that will make them single stars in RoH.
RoH will finally get a tv deal and be forced to create a new Television title.
Jimmy Jacobs will be the Television Champion to prepare him for the RoH World Title down the road.
Austin Aries will say that the fans turned on him and that he was trying to fight the man he needed to become(Just like Jacobs.)

it is - and I am sure there will still continue to be those threads, but my thinking in the creation of THIS thread is to truly have a singular place for the "newsworthy" ROH stuff.

Then, in 4 months when someone says, "Hey, I was in an underground hole for the last 3 months, what is going on in ROH?" - SHAZAM! - this thread will be right here!

Great idea...now if only somebody could revolutionize the DVD section of the boards with the same "one stop" threads, that way fifty thousand "hey how is this show?" threads, literally about the same show that was asked about two weeks earlier, didn't pop up, not to mention the countless "hey which shows should I get from this sale" threads when one recommendation thread per sale could work just the same...

I'm just saying.

I'll throw down some predictions.

World title will change hands twice this year, first to Tyler Black then to Jimmy Jacobs

American Wolves will win tag gold during WM weekend

Colt Cabana will return to ROH, after an unfortunate release from teh E.

I really hope we get a Necro Butcher vs. Brodie Lee match. This would be a case where I really don't mind if it ends in a DQ or something so they can keep the feud going. I'd really like to see these two just brawl it out and do battle.

Grizzly Redwood Q & A - 1/6/09

Recently ROHWrestling.com attempted to email Grizzly Redwood to do a Q&A session with the lumberjack. Unfortunately we discovered that he does not have internet access when he's out in the woods, much less a cellular telephone by which to reach him directly. Basically we left a message with the someone at a work site in the Great White North, waited ten days or so, and this past weekend finally got a call back from ROH's own lumberjack. The following is a transcript from our conversation with Grizzly Redwood:

1) So tell me Grizzly, where exactly are you right now?

Right now I'm nestled here in my cabin up in the Yukon enjoying a stack of flapjacks and a hot cup of blacklead.

2) Can you give our readers who may not be familiar a little bit of a background on yourself? Where you trained, how long you've been wrestling, etc.?

Well, in the ring I trained under the knowledge and ability of one Austin Aries. That was.... hmmm.... about 3 and a half years ago I guess. A fun time.

3) Who were some of your wrestling idols growing up? Where there any lumberjack idols?

Well as any person my age, I grew up a HULKAMANIAC DUDE! I enjoyed Big Josh and I was also a big admirer of Doink the Clown, Abe "Knuckleball" Schwartz, and of course The Bushwackers.

4) Where exactly did this extreme passion for lumberjacking come from? You spent the majority of your career wrestling as Mitch Franklin so please enlighten those readers who are unfamiliar.

Yes, yes of course. I searched far and wide seeking my place in the world. I went on a vision quest of sorts. With an open mind I studied under shaman, monks, ninjas, fire fighters, a Native American High Priest, and even the Philadelphia Parking Authority. Nothing seemed to fit. That is until I ventured up to the Yukon Territory and found myself standing at the foot of a forest filled with majestic redwood trees. I ventured into the woods and stumbled upon a camp site filled with lumberjacks. They took me in, I studied, trained and learned. From there it's history.

5) What is the training regimen like for you as a lumberjack?

Let me tell you something Mr. Interviewer it may be outside but, it's no picnic. It starts with a long hearty hike into the middle of the woods. From there it's time to topple the mightiest tree I can find and it doesn't stop there. Ever try dragging a giant tree through the woods in one piece? Of course not. That's where the overhand chop comes in as I proceed to break the bark covered trunk into pieces about the size of the log I carry to the ring. Place them all in a large satchel and the long, tough hike back begins and that's all just step one!

6) And how does that intense training translate to wrestling?

It translates greatly! It helps build strength, character and provides great increases in grittiness and dexterity.

7) In just a few short months you've made quite an impression on the ROH fans. They've embraced you and your lumberjack ways. Why do you think that is?

There's just something wholesome and endearing about flannel I guess. It really makes people want to cheer, eh.

8) Where do you see yourself this time next year in ROH?

This time next year I see "The Littlest Lumberjack" standing over many toppled opponents on my way down The Corduroy to Success in the R.O.H.

9) How did you spend your holidays? I hear Santa brought you a brand new axe.

HE SURE DID! Boy is it a sight. These holidays are always a great time for us lumberjacks. I love chopping down pines and carving dreidels for the kids and kids at heart. Good cheer to all I say.

10) And finally, as a lumberjack you spend a lot of time in the woods, around nature and the wildlife. Given all that time you spend with the Earth, what are your thoughts on global warming?

That's a mighty stack of a question. I love mother Earth. There's nothing more beautiful than seeing sunshine burst through the branches of the forest and I don't want anything to change that. I can't chop global warming down to size myself though, that's what congress is for.

Thanks to Grizzly Redwood for taking the time to talk with ROHWrestling.com, as well as paying the international long distance fees.

Grizzly wanted us to mention this website: http://www.lumberjackworldchampionships.com/, as he will apparently be working double time to get himself prepared to try out for this annual event. Best of luck to him in this endeavor!!!

January 7th Newswire

January 7th: A huge match up has been signed for January 16 in Manassas. Bryan Danielson is fresh off of slaying the mighty Morishima, and now he’s going to face an entirely different type of competitor. The master of manipulation, AOTF leader Jimmy Jacobs has signed to face Dragon. Jimmy’s recent acts against Tyler Black have left many in ROH questioning where his head is at, and now we have to wonder why he’d challenge the “best in the world”. One thing is for certain, Manassas is in for one hell of a match.

January 7th: As soon as it was reported that the Necro Butcher had signed to compete in the Four Corner Survival in Edison on 1/17, the ROH Booking Committee received a phone call from Delirious. Of course, no one could understand what he was really saying, but the implication was that he wanted into the match as well. As we learned previously, he will face the Butcher in a singles contest the night before in Manassas. What kind of damage will be inflicted on these two with TWO matches in back-to-back days?

January 7th: ROH Officials have been contemplating some sort of penalty for Larry Sweeney’s American Wolves for their brutal attack on Mark Briscoe. Jay Briscoe immediately asked for a tag team match for Manassas on 1/16. The match was granted, but we did not know who Jay would select as his tag team partner. We’ve just learned that Jay Briscoe has asked a man all too familiar with Sweeney’s men. Roderick Strong will team with Jay Briscoe to battle Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards!

January 7th: Speaking of Richards and Edwards, their weekend doesn’t get any easier. In Edison on 1/17 they’ll face a different kind of test. Roderick Strong has gone to ROH Officials and asked that a grudge tag match be signed for January 17. Only two weeks before Sweeney’s men face Strong, Albright, and Company in the cage, it’ll be Strong and Erick Stevens against the American Wolves. But that’s not all. Roddy wants a “warm up” of sorts for Chicago. “I want the Wolves to get a taste of what it will feel like to NOT be able to run. To NOT be able to have your friends come and bail them out. In Edison on the 17th, I want the Wolves in a Lumberjack Strap Match! And believe it, only the STRONG will survive.”

January 7th: Claudio Castagnoli certainly didn’t have much to say in a positive light in the most recent ROH Video Wire at http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=qJ6iYXi_iAY. He’s been forthright in stating that 2009 will be his year, and he’ll start that quest in Detroit on January 30. “I am very European. I am Custom-made, the prototypical athlete. I don’t drink nor smoke. In Detroit, I begin the Year of Claudio. Brent Albright, you will be my first conquest in 2009.”

January 7th: Ring of Honor officials are in the process of selecting the date and location for the "Seventh Anniversary Show". All we know right now is that the event will be held in February or March. We'll have the announcement at www.rohwrestling.com as soon as it becomes official.

I'm curious: what will be the show on March 14th, the night after the St. Louis return? Would they really run Chicago again, just six weeks after a PPV? Even at its zenith, Chicago can barely handle 2 month intervals. Six weeks would be insane.

I saw no return date for Nashville, so that's apparently out. So unless it's a random Friday only show (not very likely at all), it's being paired up with Chicago or a new market.
