I saw no return date for Nashville, so that's apparently out. So unless it's a random Friday only show (not very likely at all), it's being paired up with Chicago or a new market.

I agree with you.

It will be very interesting to see what is announced, as if you think even further, it seems like when Dayton is run again in April that logically it would be paired with Chicago as well.

January 8th Newswire

January 8th: We're just over one week away from the debut of RISING ABOVE on pay per view starting Friday, January 16th. In case you missed the news several weeks back, this event will be available to DIRECT TV subscribers for the first time. Other cable operators carrying this event include iN Demand, The Dish Network, & TVN cable systems in the United States. Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVu will be carrying the event in Canada. For more details on this PPV event click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508.

January 8th: The first teaser from the RISING ABOVE pay per view with clips from Nigel McGuinness vs. Bryan Danielson can be viewed here: http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=NhHnDD7DAkI.

January 8th: Jerry Lynn sat down for a compelling interview in the last ROH Video Wire at http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=qJ6iYXi_iAY. He talked about a variety of subjects, including losing his confidence, and his love for the wrestling industry. Now on January 16 in Manassas, Lynn will take to the squared circle once more, this time against a man that has many questions to answer. Austin Aries has been eerily silent since Final Battle, and has yet to shed any light on his attack of Tyler Black, speculation of an alliance with arch nemesis, Jimmy Jacobs, or anything else. Now we’ve come to find that he’s signed to face Lynn, who’s on a quest of his own. Will we get any closer to clarity on 1/16?

January 8th: Ring of Honor officials are still receiving no cooperation from Austin Aries when it comes to the World Title Match that he earned by virtue of his win over Tyler Black at Final Battle. The Booking Committee has been trying to secure the championship match for the fans in Edison on January 17. We hope to have an update on this as soon as possible, as neither the ROH Office nor Nigel McGuinness has any clue what Aries is doing.

January 8th: “Sugarfoot” Alex Payne and Silas Young have earned another chance at ROH Pay-Per-View based on their showing at “Rising Above”. On January 31 in Chicago, they’ll face each other in singles competition.

January 8th: Ring of Honor will return to Detroit, MI on Friday, January 30th for "Motor City Madness 2009". Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright in a "Special Challenge Match" was made official yesterday. Kevin Steen and El Generico have just found out who they’ll defend the World Tag Team Titles against, and they couldn’t be happier. Stemming off of the attempt to take out Steen’s knee much like they did Mark Briscoe's, Larry Sweeney’s American Wolves have signed the dotted line, and you can bet the fight will be on. “They tried like hell to take me out”, said Steen. “And they got a lot closer than I care to admit. In Detroit on the 30th, Generico and I are coming for our receipt.”

January 8th: Friday morning is your last chance to take advantage of the two current specials running at www.rohwrestling.com. The first offer features over 20 ROH live event DVD's from 2005 for only $8 each. The second deal features $10 off all ringside reserved seats for all upcoming live events. Complete details on the sale can be found here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2435.

January 8th: Another phone call came into the ROH Offices yesterday from the same person that called before about returning to “where it all began”.

January 8th: Kenny King along with YRR teammate, Chasyn Rance, will appear when ROH returns to Florida in Coral Springs on February 6 and Orlando on February 7!

January 9th Newswire

January 9th: You can now take 30% Off your next order placed at www.rohwrestling.com. This includes DVD's, tickets to upcoming live events, apparel, & much more. For complete sale information including the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338.

January 9th: Now in stock at www.rohwrestling.com is "Wrestling At The Gateway" from Collinsville, IL on December 6th. This event features ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn, Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black, Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious vs. The Necro Butcher & Ace Steel, a Tag Team Gauntlet Match featuring Jay & Mark Briscoe, plus more.

January 9th: One of the hottest feuds anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region will make its way into an ROH ring as both Damien Wayne and Sean Denny have been entered into the Four Corner Survival match on 1/17 in Edison. Fans of ROH may not be familiar with this feud, but those on the Mid-Atlantic coast have been watching these two brutalize each other for some time. Combine them with The Necro Butcher and Delirious in the same ring at the same time and we have all the makings of a time bomb ready to go off!

January 9th: Erick Stevens and Roderick Strong have an open contract for a tag team match on January 30th in Detroit, one night before the huge steel cage war in Chicago on Pay-Per-View. “We want to test ourselves”, said Stevens. “We think we have what it takes to be a top-notch tag team in Ring of Honor, and we want to see if we’re right.” We’ll have their opponents soon right here in the Newswire.
January 9th: After several heated conversations with Larry Sweeney and Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated, as well as Brent Albright and company, ROH Officials have decided that the Steel Cage War in Chicago will be a 5-on-5 contest. It will be "Caged Collision" coming to Pay-Per-View from the Windy City. The rules of this match will closely follow those set forth in the epic “Cage of Death” encounter that capped the ROH/CZW War. This match will be the Pay-Per-View main event on 1/31!

January 9th: Claudio Castagnoli recently issued a challenge to Brent Albright for a singles match in Detroit on 1/30. Now we’ve learned that he’s been lobbying for a big time singles match to take place on PPV in Chicago. ROH Officials have reached out to the man that Claudio has targeted, and we hope to have an announcement next week.

January 9th: The Age of the Fall, represented by Brodie Lee and Delirious, will be in tag team action on Pay-Per-View on January 31st. The ROH Booking Committee doesn’t think it will take very long to finalize their opponents.

January 9th: Only a week removed from their upcoming Steel Cage War, Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens, and Brent Albright will appear when ROH returns to Florida on February 6 and 7. We’ll have more talent announcements next week in the Newswire.

American Wolves On The Hunt

Monday, January 12, 2009

Eddie Edwards officially signed his name on the dotted line with Larry Sweeney at “Bedlam in Beantown” back in April ’08. Davey Richards became part of the Sweet & Sour Inc. team at “Respect is Earned II” in June of 2008 after turning his back on Roderick Strong and the No Remorse Corps. Richards was quickly sent away to Pro Wrestling NOAH for an extended three month stay, including training in the NOAH dojo. Edwards has been making regulars tours of Japan for several years now since the time he spent training in that same dojo. Both men left for Japan as highly skilled athletes, and both men came back to the United States as killers.

Sweeney spent all of December yelling at the top of his lungs to anyone who would listen about how great his tag team was, about how they would set the tag team scene on fire, and how the tag titles would soon belong to Sweet & Sour Inc. At “All Star Extravaganza IV”, the American Wolves were pitted against Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli and Jay & Mark Briscoe in an elimination match and made an immediate impact by eliminating Claudio & Nigel. And although they ended up being defeated by the Briscoes, the Wolves decimated the knee of Mark Briscoe throughout the match. Davey Richards also made his presence felt, taking out Steen’s knee during his match, and costing Steen’s team the contest.

The following night, “Final Battle 2008”, the Wolves competed alongside Go Shiozaki in a NYC Street Fight against Albright, Strong, & Stevens. The Wolves took it to their opponents with ferocious tenacity, but Shiozaki proved to be the weak link as he was submitted by Albright’s Crowbar. Despite the loss, Edwards & Richards made their presence felt again that night as they took out the Briscoes after their match with Sasaki & Nakajima. Handcuffing Jay to the ropes, the duo went to work on Mark’s already damaged knee until Steen & Generico made the unlikely save. That didn’t stop the Wolves as they attacked the Canadians as well until Albright, Stevens, and Strong made their way to the ring.

Albright demanded a cage match with Sweet & Sour and within the week it became official that it would take place in Chicago Ridge on January 31st as part of the PPV taping. But on the road to that match, Sweeney’s duo has to face several challenges. This Friday night in Manassas, Richards & Edwards must step into the ring with two of the men they have targeted in recent months; Jay Briscoe & Roderick Strong. Each man has their own reasons for wanting to put a hurting on the Wolves, and this contest will be their first opportunity to do so.

The next night in Edison, Davey & Eddie will have to face Strong & Erick Stevens in a Lumberjack Strap match per Strong’s demands. For each team, it’s a chance to wear out the other before the cage match. It’s a calculated risk, but one that could very well pay off for either team.

Then in Detroit, “Motor City Madness 2009”, Sweeney’s team will have the opportunity to make good on their promises of dominance; just like Steen & Generico will have the chance to get some revenge. 24 hours before they are locked inside the cage, the American Wolves will have the chance to become ROH World Tag Champions as they face Kevin Steen & El Generico in Detroit, MI.

And all roads lead to Chicago Ridge, “Caged Collision”, January 31st, 5 on 5 inside the Steel Cage. Albright, Strong, Stevens, and their allies against Sweet & Sour Inc; unfortunately, Larry Sweeney has been less than forthcoming with who will represent his team that night. Suffice to say that there is a large group to select from given all the talent that has signed with Sweeney thru the last couple years. All we know for sure, is that it will be a violent night in the Windy City, and that by the end of January, S&S Inc., and the American Wolves, could be not only be in control of the Tag Titles, but they could also put down the biggest opposition to Sweeney’s hostile takeover!

Tickets are available here at www.rohwrestling.com for all four events mentioned above, and stay tuned to the ROH Videowire in the coming weeks for comments from the men involved in the Steel Cage War!!!

January 13th Newswire

January 13th: We're just three days away from the debut of Ring of Honor RISING ABOVE on Pay-Per-View. You can watch this event on DIRECT TV, iN Demand, The Dish Network, & TVN cable systems in the United States and Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVu in Canada. The first review on the show is in and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter wrote "You are not going to find a show with two better matches on it, nor any better of a final hour." For complete details on this event click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508.

January 13th: Austin Aries finally made contact with the ROH Booking Committee after ignoring several attempts to reach him since Final Battle. After several requests, he said that he’ll capitalize on the World Title shot he earned by defeating Tyler Black to “become the first two-time ROH World Champion” in Edison. He also said that soon his “manifesto would be opened to the eyes of the blind”.

January 13th: We received disheartening news late last week in reference to Mark Briscoe’s ailing knee. It appears that he will be sidelined for much longer than originally thought. Jay Briscoe stated that, “(Mark) has been told that they need to shorten the ligament behind his kneecap and tighten the ligaments on the sides.” It seems that medical personnel may in fact need to harvest the ligament tissue needed for the procedure from cadavers. We’ve been told to expect him to be out of action somewhere between 4 and 6 months, depending on his recovery and the rehabilitation process. Everyone at Ring of Honor wishes Mark the best in his recovery.

January 13th: Rhett Titus will have the biggest test of his young wrestling career when ROH returns to Detroit. On January 30, “Addicted to Love” will meet the “Best in the World” as Titus has signed to face “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson in a singles match. “Hey Brother, I’m making a name for myself,” said Titus. “And the ladies of Detroit Rock City will quiver when I swivel because everyone knows, brother, that my delts will make them all – even Danielson – melt.”

January 13th: ROH Officials are happy to announce that a rematch from “The French Connection” has been signed for Detroit. Brodie Lee of the Age of the Fall has demanded another shot at the Necro Butcher claiming that the match they had in Montreal “pales in comparison to the beating I’ll give Necro on the 30th”.

January 13th: You can now take 30% Off your next order placed at www.rohwrestling.com. This includes DVD's, tickets to upcoming live events, apparel, & much more. For complete sale information including the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338. Our latest DVD release is "Wrestling At The Gateway" from Collinsville, IL on December 5th. This event features ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn; Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black; Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious vs. The Necro Butcher & Ace Steel; Tag Team Gauntlet Match with Brent Albright & Erick Stevens vs. Sweet N Sour Inc. vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Irish Airborne; plus more.

January 13th: We’re pleased to announce that current ROH World Champion, Nigel McGuinness, as well as the current ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico, have all signed and will be in action when ROH returns to Florida on February 6 and 7!

Necro’s Path Of Vengeance

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Since “Death Before Dishonor VI” in August, The Necro Butcher has fought a war against The Age of The Fall, and Jimmy Jacobs in particular. It’s been a war with many purposes for Necro, it’s been fought for redemption, it’s been fought for family, and it has been fought for self. Never again will Necro let himself be used like he was by Jimmy Jacobs; never again will he fight under the auspices of another. This is Necro’s time, his family’s time, but also the time for vengeance.

The first battle took place at “Night of the Butcher II” in Chicago Ridge, and although Jacobs emerged victorious, it wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of Tyler Black. Round two took place inside the confines of Steel Cage Warfare at “Glory by Honor VII” where Necro went solo against the teams of Aries/Briscoes and Jacobs/Black/Delirious. To the shock of all, Necro ended up the first man eliminated when Jacobs and Aries united for a moment to decimate the biggest threat in the match with steel chairs.
Undaunted, Necro demanded more AOTF and Jacobs put Delirious in the path of the Butcher. This time it was at “Return of the 187” and Necro had to deal with Delirious and Jay Briscoe in a Three Way match. The contest was a total brawl, all three men throwing everything (chairs, tables, etc.) at one another, and Necro finally came up on the winning end when he pinned Delirious. The next night, “Ring of Homicide II”, Jacobs and the AOTF got their revenge, leaving Necro laid out during his FIP Title match against Go Shiozaki.

At “The French Connection”, Jacobs put Brodie Lee, his newest acquisition, inside the ring to face Necro, and when it seemed like Necro had the match in the palm of his hand, Jimmy and crew hit the ring to decimate the Butcher. The scene played out once again at “Bound by Hate” when Necro was given a shot at Nigel McGuinness and the ROH World title. Delirious & Brodie Lee made sure that Necro would not walk out of the building with the title in hand; costing him the match via DQ, but it was the duo of Steen & Generico that kept the AOTF team from doing any further damage.

When ROH made its debut in the St. Louis area with “Wrestling at the Gateway”, Necro came with back-up in the form of Ace Steel for his match with Delirious & Jimmy Jacobs. It was a chaotic brawl; chairs and tables were strewn about, and in the end, Butcher put Delirious down once again. The next night at “Southern Hostility”, Necro took an unlikely ally in the form of Austin Aries to go to war with Black & Jacobs. That battle settled nothing as they went to a double countout in the course of brawling around the ringside area.

“All Star Extravaganza IV” saw Necro take on another unlikely partner, or rather partners, with Steen & Generico to take on Jacobs, Black, & Delirious. Unfortunately, due to some outside involvement from Davey Richards, Necro’s team lost. And twenty-four hours later at “Final Battle 2008”, Jacobs baited Necro into an attack from the AOTF, calling him a “Hollywood sell-out” due to his involvement in “The Wrestler” movie. Again Steen & Generico came to the aid of their erstwhile ally en route to retaining their tag titles over Jacobs & Delirious.

And that bring us to this weekend: Manassas, VA and Edison, NJ. Each night Necro will step into the ring with Delirious as his opposition. On Friday night, they will go one-on-one in singles competition. Saturday, each man will be part of a Four Corner Survival with two local standouts in Damien Wayne and Sean Denny. The level of hate between Necro and the AOTF has only escalated with each passing week, but one has to wonder where the group as a whole stands. Jacobs recently turned his back on Tyler Black, and he has been very vocal in his disappointment with Delirious and the masked man’s continued attachment to Daizee Haze. And given her recent alliance with Necro, you’ve have to wonder what involvement she may have in these contests.

Necro’s battle with Jacobs and his group isn’t ending anytime soon. Butcher still hasn’t been able to get his hands back on the mastermind, and the AOTF still plays the numbers game to leave Necro down whenever they can. But if nothing else, Necro endures. He takes everything thrown at him, and keeps pushing on…never relenting, never giving up. Like the song says, he won’t back down…

January 14th Newswire

January 14th: Ring of Honor will debut in Indianapolis, IN on Saturday, March 14th. The show will take place at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Tickets for the event will go on sale this coming Thursday morning (tomorrow) at 11am EST at www.rohwrestling.com.

January 14th: Friday night in Manassas, fans will be treated to a rematch of one the best matches from 2008. Nigel McGuinness vs. Tyler Black from the "Take No Prisoners" pay-per-view was recently voted as one of the top ROH matches of last year, and January 16th marks their first rematch in singles competition since that night. Black is viewing this as his opportunity to get back into the ROH World Title picture with a victory over the champion in this non-title match. As for Nigel, when asked for comment he simply had this to say, "I trounced Tyler Black within an inch of his life back in Philadelphia, and I did the same in New York City when I kept my title against THREE people, mate! How Tyler thinks this go-round will be any different is beyond me, but I'd be a liar if I didn't say I'm looking forward to squashin' his little fantasy of beatin' the champ!"

January 14th: This Saturday night in Edison will feature the first Lumberjack Strap Match in ROH history with Roderick Strong & Erick Stevens versus The American Wolves of Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards. It was a match that Strong demanded as a way to keep the S&S Inc. crew from running away; lumberjacks surrounding the ring with leather straps in hand certainly serve as a deterrent. "There won't be a way for the Wolves to get away." said Erick Stevens, "Trapped inside the ring, surrounded by people just waiting to whip them, anywhere they go they are going to get hurt. I owe Sweet & Sour for trying to break my arm, and the payback starts Saturday night!" Roderick Strong added, "And the payback won't end until we get them inside that steel cage in Chicago in just a couple weeks!"

January 14th: There are less than 24 hours remaining to save 30% off your next order. This sale is good on DVD's, apparel, tickets, & more. For complete details on the sale and the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338.

January 14th: Just 2 days until the debut is RISING ABOVE on Pay-Per View. The latest reviews on the show are in. Richard Gray of WrestlingNewsWorld.com wrote "Rising Above is another top-notch pay-per-view effort from Ring Of Honor and I highly recommend it. Not only do the workers deliver with the best in-ring work in the world, the booking made sense, and the show flowed better than any ROH pay-per-view to date." Sean Radican of PWTorch.com wrote "You won't see a better hour of wrestling on PPV than ROH provides here during the final hour. It was simply an amazing hour to watch unfold."

January 14th: The new ROH Video Wire is posted here: http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=DT78ESQzuHI. This week's highlights include interviews from Jerry Lynn & Bryan Danielson leading to their All Star Extravaganza IV Rematch this Saturday night in Edison, NJ, Brent Albright talks about the gigantic Steel Cage War coming to Chicago, comments from Larry Sweeney & The American Wolves, Prince Nana, & much more.

January 14th: "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson will be in action when Ring of Honor returns to Florida in Coral Springs on February 6th and Orlando, FL on February 7th. Also just added to this weekend's events are The Age of the Fall of Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious.

Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on the night of the show.

January 15th: TOMORROW NIGHT is also the debut of RISING ABOVE on Pay-Per-View. We've been talking about it all week and now is the time for you to check out this event for yourself. If you've missed the reviews or teasers for the event click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508. The event premieres at 10pm EST on DIRECTV, iN DEMAND, DISH Network and TVN in the U.S. and Viewer’s Choice and Bell ExpressVu in Canada.

January 15th: Claudio Castagnoli’s challenge has been laid out for 1/31 in Chicago, and it’s a unique one. “I want to show everyone first hand the superiority that I possess,” said Claudio. “My skill is unmatched. My stature as an athlete is unparalleled. And in Chicago, I will showcase my European grit and my championship potential, and that is why I challenge Kevin Steen.” ROH Officials did not expect that, as Steen and Generico are defending the World Tag Titles the previous night in Detroit. We are currently waiting to see if Steen will accept the match.

January 15th: ROH Officials are happy to announce that Jerry Lynn and the Necro Butcher have been confirmed and will appear when ROH returns to Florida on February 6 in Coral Springs and on February 7 in Orlando!

January 15th: Jay Briscoe is going to be without his brother, Mark, for several months while Mark rehabs his injured knee. But that won’t slow Jay down. He commented, “I got it bad, man, and Sweeney’s boys will pay for what they done. But Mark being on the shelf don’t mean I’ve lost my purpose. It may even be a blessing in disguise, because now ROH will have to face me as a singles wrestler.” Jay is signed to compete in Detroit and Chicago, and he’s looking for big competition. “I will get my revenge on Sweeney, and at the same time I’ll prove myself.”

January 15th: Speaking of Jay, he gave the ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico a sincere if not tense “thank you” in the 1/6/09 edition of the ROH Videowire http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=qJ6iYXi_iAY. “We know that without the Briscoe Brothers there is no Steen and Generico,” said Steen. “And we have our own issues with Sweet-n-Sour now. In Detroit we got our first shot at redemption against the Wolves, and it’s going to be the start of our retribution.”

January 15th: ROH is happy to welcome two Chicagoland veterans to pre-show competition on the 31st. Egotistico Fantastico and Deryck St. Holmes, Esq. will face off in singles competition, and ROH officials are excited to see what these two tremendous talents will bring to the ROH stage.

January 19th Newswire

January 19th: We would like to thank the great fans in both Manassas and Edison for attending our events over the past weekend. We return to Manassas, VA on Friday night June 12th and Edison, NJ on Saturday night May 9th. Tickets are now on sale for both shows.

January 19th: ROH officials are investigating the events surrounding the dramatic and outstanding ROH World Title match in Edison between Nigel McGuinness and Tyler Black that ended in a time limit draw. There have been allegations that the match did not actually reach the 60 minute limit when the timekeeper’s bell signaled the end of regulation time. Furthermore, there has also been speculation that the intense mid-match melee, which nearly caused the title match to be thrown out and ruled a no-contest, may be connected to this apparent timing mishap. ROH officials are currently reviewing all available footage, as well as questioning timekeeper Giuseppe di Lorento and everybody else involved in the events that took place in Edison. We'll have updates as new details come to light.

January 19th: Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs did nothing over the weekend to clear the air as it pertains to their relationship. On one hand they seemed to cohesively work as a unit, on the other they bickered and physically accosted each other like enemies. One thing is for certain, however, Tyler Black has a bone to pick with both of them. We hope to have comments from Tyler soon as it pertains to Jacobs and Aries.

January 19th: Jerry Lynn has signed on to team with the Necro Butcher in his plight against the Age of the Fall. In Chicago on 1/31, Lynn and Necro will oppose the mammoth Brodie Lee and Delirious. Lynn defeated Delirious in Montreal back in November at “The French Connection”, so he has an understanding of how the masked man works. What isn’t clear is where Delirious’ head is at after the happenings in Manassas last Friday which saw him hand over the spike to Daizee Haze rather than use it on Necro. Necro, meanwhile, will face Brodie Lee one-on-one in Detroit. There is no telling what direction this feud will turn.

January 19th: ROH officials have been bombarded with inquiries about the appearance of Bison Smith in Manassas and Edison. The gargantuan Bison made two unannounced attacks over the weekend, and ROH security teams had a brutal time trying to control the monster of a man. His intentions in ROH are completely unknown at this juncture.

January 19th: Less than 24 hours remain in the Buy 3, Get 1 Free Ring of Honor DVD Sale at www.rohwrestling.com. Now available is "Southern Hostility" from Nashville, TN from December 6th. This event featured Nigel McGuinness defending the ROH World Title against Jerry Lynn in a great match; Bryan Danielson vs. Claudio Castagnoli in a NO DQ Match; Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black vs. The Necro Butcher & Austin Aries; Brent Albright & Erick Stevens vs. Sweet N Sour Inc; plus more.

January 19th: Ring of Honor RISING ABOVE continues to air on Pay Per View throughout the month of January. If you have iN Demand there is a replay scheduled for tonight at 6pm. There is also a replay scheduled for Wednesday night at 8pm EST. For complete details and replay times click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508.

Nigel’s Title Reign Continues

Monday, January 19, 2009

To call Nigel McGuinness an angry man would be something of an understatement. In his eyes, the name McGuinness should be synonymous with “Best in the World”, not Bryan Danielson. Nigel should be the one respected for his career accomplishments, not Jerry Lynn. Nigel should be applauded for his reign, not subject to “Next World Champ” chants whenever Tyler Black steps foot in the ring.

And unfortunately for him, those chants only grew louder when Black pinned his shoulders to the mat in their non-title confrontation in Manassas Friday night. The visual of Tyler holding the ROH World title while standing over Nigel spoke volumes about how far Black has come, and about how the fans feel in regards to McGuinness. Add in the controversial conclusion to the World Title match in Edison, and a vast majority of the ROH faithful feel that McGuinness was lucky to have survived the weekend with the title still in his possession.

As for the champion’s thoughts: “To hell with those bloody fools!” McGuinness said, “Not a single one of them respects my title reign, and they probably never will. It doesn’t matter that I destroyed Danielson’s reign. It doesn’t matter that I’ve retained this title thirty-three times, THIRTY-THREE TIMES! Yeah, maybe the clamdigga is the only other one who can say that, but it’s just a matter of time before I shatter that record too.”

In terms of sheer numbers, McGuinness has indeed surpassed the 462 day title reign of Bryan Danielson and is creeping on Dragon’s record of 38 successful title defenses as well. And of course, there is always the imposing 645 day reign of Samoa Joe looming overhead.

When questioned about that, Nigel said “Samoa Joe’s reign? All respect to Joe, he’s a helluva wrestler. But when it’s all said and done, his record will be a footnote, love. He’ll be remembered as second best, just like Danielson and Geritol Lynn and that punk Tyler Black. This is my company mate. I OWN the ROH Title, and nobody…NOBODY is takin’ it away from me EVER!”

When asked about the two upcoming events in Detroit, and the PPV taping in Chicago Ridge, McGuinness dismissed any challengers. “Detroit? Please mate, I’m of a mind that Michigan doesn’t much deserve to see a title match, just like no one in this locker room deserves to get one.” McGuinness then got a big smile on his face, “But Chicago is a pay per view, and I take pleasure in ruining the fans hopes on that scale, love. The thing is I’ve gone through the ENTIRE ROSTER OF ROH, two, maybe three times over, so please, oh wise fans of ROH, tell me who I should face – and beat – again - in Chicago?”

January 20th Newswire

January 20th: Kevin Steen spoke with ROH officials yesterday in regards to the challenge laid out by Claudio Castagnoli for Chicago on January 31st. “I talked it over with Generico,” said Steen. “But he was busy translating something from the ROH website into Spanish so I don’t think he was paying attention. Anyway, it doesn’t matter because I know he’s fine with me facing Claudio, as I never back down from a challenge. Claudio thinks he’s “championship material”? Well, we’ll see if that’s the case on the 31st on Pay-Per-View.” Don’t forget, Steen and Generico will defend the World Tag Team Titles in Detroit against Larry Sweeney’s American Wolves!

January 20th: Speaking of Detroit, a huge singles match has been signed. Fresh off of coming within an eyelash of winning the ROH World Title, Tyler Black will face the man with the biggest grudge against Nigel McGuinness as of late. Jerry Lynn and Tyler Black will face off in the Motor City on January 30th in what promises to be a pristine example of wrestling excellence only available in Ring of Honor.

January 20th: Jay Briscoe is tired of the double teams and cheap shots. His brother, Mark, is severely injured due to this kind of behavior by Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated. The fans in Edison, NJ witnessed Jay come to the aid of Tyler Black who faced a similar danger at the hands of Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs. Briscoe was victorious in an impromptu Three Way Dance over Aries and Jacobs, and now we’ve gotten word that he’s got something important to say in the upcoming ROH Videowire.

January 20th: ROH officials have been in back and forth contact with “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush as of late. We’ll have news on this as it develops.

January 20th: Roderick Strong and Erick Stevens wanted a tag team match for Detroit, and now they’ve got one. Freshly signed this morning is a match that will pit Stevens and Strong against the Age of the Fall represented by their leader, Jimmy Jacobs, and Delirious. After falling to The Necro Butcher in Manassas last Friday, Jimmy Jacobs was extremely vocal in his displeasure with Delirious’ relenting to Daizee Haze. Perhaps a convincing tag team win can cement the grasp the Jacobs has over the psyche of the Lizard Man. A newly aggressive Delirious could spell trouble for Strong and Stevens, who 24 hours later will do combat in the Cage!

January 20th: You can now save 20% off your next order at www.rohwrestling.com. As always this sale includes DVD's, live event tickets, apparel, & more. For complete details on the sale along with the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2215.

January 20th: In addition to the already announced talent for February 6th & February 7th in Florida, ROH is going to give an opportunity to some of the standout local talent from the Sunshine State. Sean Osbourne, Brad Attitude, the Dark City Fight Club of Jon Davis & Kory Chavis, as well as The British Lions (Chris Gray & Tommy Taylor) will be given an opportunity to shine in Coral Springs & Orlando, and potentially earn a spot on the ROH roster!

January 20th: This past weekend, Jerry Lynn requested a special sitdown with Kyle Durden saying that he had some things he needed to get off his chest since the last time ROH sat down with the veteran. Stay tuned for this weeks ROH Videowire to see the beginning of a very emotional interview with this former World Champion.
