An Uncrowned Champion?
Wednesday, January 21, 2009
“I know I can beat the champion.” That had to be the only thought running thru the head of Tyler Black as he went into Virginia last Friday night. And the former AOTF member confirmed that thought when Tyler pinned Nigel’s shoulders to the mat for the three-count following a turnbuckle powerbomb/superkick combination. The match may have been non-title, but it proved to the ROH fans what Tyler already knew, that he could beat the champion. He had come so close on two different occasions (“Take No Prisoners” & “Death Before Dishonor VI”), but January 16th belonged to Tyler Black.
“I’m going to beat Jimmy Jacobs.”
That had to be the thought Black had going into Edison the next night as he expected to face his former partner that cold New Jersey night. But an unexpected set of circumstances flipped that plan on its ear, and Black found himself once more staring across the ring at Nigel McGuinness. But this time, in light of Tyler’s victory the previous night and the actions of Aries & Jacobs earlier, Black found himself with an ROH World Title opportunity.
“I will be champion.”
That had to be the thought running thru Tyler’s head as the bell rang. He had beaten Nigel the night before, exorcised that demon if you will, and now the chance to become champion was in the palm of his hand. After a grueling battle that saw Black survive vicious lariats, and Nigel survive the Small Package Driver as well as evade the Phoenix Splash, Tyler managed to nail the same powerbomb/superkick combination that secured him the victory in Manassas. But before he could crawl to Nigel and make the cover, the bell rang and the match time limit apparently expired.
Immediately there were questions as to whether or not the match actually reached its 60 minute limit; allegations that the mid-match brawl may have played a part in this timing mishap, and every person that was at ringside has been, or will be, questioned as ROH investigates the matter.
“I SHOULD BE CHAMPION!”
That had to be the thought that engrossed Tyler as soon as the match ended. The match was won, and whatever happened cost him the ROH World Title. It may have been the timekeeper, it may have been that brawl, there is even some speculation that Aries and/or Jacobs played a part in costing Tyler the belt. They certainly tried; it was their mutual assault on Black during the match that initiated the chaos that nearly got the match thrown out. They tried to cost him the title directly. When that didn’t work, maybe they resorted to more underhanded tactics to accomplish the goal.
Perhaps Nigel did something on his end to protect himself. He obviously had motive; losing the night prior had to put the fear of a repeat performance into him. The champion had time after the announcement of the match to conspire against Tyler. There’s no telling what lengths McGuinness would go to in order to remain champion, and but are such underhanded tactics even beneath him? Hopefully this investigation will uncover the answers.
As for Tyler, well he’s seeking answers in his own way, and it isn’t with sneak attacks and dirty deeds. ROH managed to get a word with Black before he left the building Saturday night, and we will have those comments for you in the ROH Videowire later today. Suffice to say that he’s had enough of Aries & Jacobs, and is looking for some retribution... |

January 22nd Newswire
January 22nd: Tyler Black laid it out there in the newest edition of the ROH Video Wire at http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=uR-q8lCs9bA and now we simply must wait. We must wait to see if Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries can put aside several months of bloodshed and hatred for the prospect of tearing Tyler Black apart even more than they already have. Black came closer than he ever imagined to becoming ROH World Champion, but once more, the involvement of Jacobs, Aries, and ultimately many more, seemingly shattered that dream. We know that Tyler is ready to fight, and he wants them both in Chicago. Will Jacobs and Aries accept the challenge, and if so, who will Tyler ask to watch his back?
January 22nd: Speaking of the ROH Video Wire, Jerry Lynn let us in to see a side of himself that most never have. Jerry talks candidly about his experience seeing the acclaimed motion picture, The Wrestler, and in many ways draws parallels between his life and that of the main character in the film, Randy “The Ram”, played by Mickey Rourke. Most importantly, Jerry raises a question in his own mind, “Was Nigel right in Nashville?” Lynn will get the chance to prove that Nigel was wrong when he faces the incredible Tyler Black in Detroit, and teams with The Necro Butcher to face Delirious and Brodie Lee on PPV in Chicago. General admission tickets for both events in Detroit & Chicago are on sale for $10 each until Friday morning at www.rohwrestling.com. Combine that price with the current 20% off sale listed on the main page of the site and you can get a great deal on tickets for these big events.
January 22nd: “Sugarfoot” Alex Payne had some recent comments on his big match against Silas Young on January 31 in Chicago. Silas has paid his dues all over the Midwest, and has impressed ROH officials on a number of occasions. We now learn that he will face his toughest test yet in Detroit. Young will face a man who would challenge the adage that a leopard can’t change his spots. In Detroit, Silas Young will oppose Austin Aries in singles competition. Aries, who has been talking about his great manifesto as of late, commented, “I know Silas. In fact, I know him well. I also know that time is of the essence. And I know that being in the right place at the right time is sometimes more important than anything else. On January 30 in Detroit, Silas, it won’t be your time and you’ll be out of place and when I’m done, another chapter of the ‘A-Double Manifesto’ gets sent to print.”
January 22nd: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness was in contact with several ROH officials over the past 48 hours. As reported, ROH officials are questioning everyone involved in the main event that took place in Edison last Saturday night to ascertain whether any “foul play” took place at the timekeeper’s table. The contest between McGuinness and Tyler Black would otherwise easily be considered a match-of-the-year contender, if not for this alleged black mark. McGuinness was extremely agitated when questioned on the matter, yet his denials aside, ROH officials seem to think that Nigel had more incentive than anyone else to entertain the idea of shortening the contest. Is it pure coincidence that the bell rang immediately following the same series of maneuvers that beat Nigel the night before in Manassas? We’ll continue to update you as details become available.
January 22nd: Speaking of McGuinness, in Detroit he’ll be in singles action and the voices of the fans have been heard. Many people have been clamoring for Jay Briscoe to get a real opportunity to showcase his skills as a singles performer, and on the 30th in Detroit he’ll get that chance. It’ll be McGuinness versus Briscoe, and even though it will be a non-title affair, this match could propel Jay into the upper ranks of ROH! A strong singles showing by the elder Briscoe would no doubt be a welcome delight to Mark Briscoe, who as we all know will miss considerable action. We are still waiting to find out who Nigel will face in Chicago, but we have been told that the title will be on the line when ROH returns to Pay-Per-View in the Windy City!
January 22nd: SHIMMER Vol. 21 & 22 are set to be released on DVD next weekend at www.rohwrestling.com. Check out a trailer for these titles at http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=RjmH26yPZ20.
January 22nd: With the amount of talent coming to Coral Springs and Orlando looking to prove their worth, ROH is titling the February 6th and 7th events “Proving Ground ‘09”. The first match we’d like to announce for Coral Springs is a tag team attraction with plenty of intrigue as the Dark City Fight Club of Kory Chavis and Jon Davis will look to make their mark in Ring of Honor. And what better way to send a statement than by taking on the best. On 2/6, The Dark City Fight Club will take on ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico! Although this will be a non-title contest, a win by the DCFC would go a long way to showing that they belong in ROH.
January 22nd: In other Florida news, Davey Richards and Larry Sweeney of Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated have also been added to “Proving Ground ‘09” weekend.
January 22nd: Congratulation to "The Wrestler" on receiving two Oscar nominations earlier today for Mickey Rourke as Best Actor in Leading Role and Marisa Tomei as Best Actress in Supporting Role. The Oscars will be presented on February 22nd. The movie opens in select theatres this weekend in the following cities: Anchorage, Asheville, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Champaign/Decatur/Springfield, Charlotte, Charlottesville, Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Corpus Christi, Des Moines, Ft. Myers, Gainesville, Grand Rapids, Harrisburg, PA, Ithaca, Jacksonville, Knoxville, Lansing, Lexington, Lousiville, Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, Norfolk/Newport News, Northampton/Springfield, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Portland, ME, Providence, Raleigh/Durham, Reno, Richmond, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Sarasota, Spokane, Syracuse, Tallahassee, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Tucson, and Tulsa.

January 23rd Newswire
January 23rd: Nigel McGuinness is of the opinion that he is the Greatest ROH World Champion of all-time, and that it should be a completely undisputed fact by now. In fact, he recently insinuated that there is no one left in ROH for him to defeat. You can read his comments here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2521. ROH officials aren’t happy about Nigel’s claims, but can’t find fault in them either. The truth is that McGuinness has gone through nearly everyone that has been placed in front of him in his illustrious reign. Rumor has it that ROH officials are working quickly to finalize fresh matches that are suitable to McGuinness’ tastes as ROH returns to the Sunshine State for “Proving Ground ’09” weekend. Should Nigel escape Chicago with the ROH World Title still in tow, officials are hoping to have him defend it in either Coral Springs or Orlando. We hope to have the low down on these matches early next week in the Newswire.
January 23rd: Speaking of Chicago, we now know what El Generico was translating into Spanish when Kevin Steen accepted the challenge of Claudio Castagnoli for “Caged Collision” on January 31st. It seems that the Generic Luchador was also reading Nigel’s selfish words, and like many others in ROH, he was insulted by the arrogance. So much so that he contacted the ROH Booking Committee and begged for a chance to shut Nigel up. Of course, Nigel has defeated Generico in the past, so he has no reason to accept the match. ROH officials contacted him by phone to discuss Generico’s request. “I’ve already defeated that skinny tart,” said Nigel. “Why on Earth should anyone believe he has a claim to the Title? It’s like I’ve said sunshine, there is no one I haven’t beaten. Not that clamdigger Danielson, not Geritol Lynn, not Tyler Black, not anyone worth stepping into that damn ring with. Maybe I should reconsider, and just take the PPV off. I’ve nothing to prove – and certainly not to that skinny pale immigrant.” As the phone call seemed to conclude, Nigel spoke again, “But you know what, I’m a fighting champion though, aren’t I? And I have made a name for myself living up to every challenge that stood before me. If the fans want me to wrestle on the Pay-Per-View, and if they want me to fight that masked tart again, then I’ll oblige. And trust me, Generico will regret it.”
January 23rd: A very strange letter arrived via courier to the ROH offices yesterday, and written on it were these words. “The thundering path of the Bison will lead me through the very heart of Ring of Honor. It has begun.” The letter was not signed.
January 23rd: Just added to “Caged Collision” in Chicago on January 31st is a special attraction singles match pitting “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus against Grizzly Redwood. Will the man with “Hammys that win Grammys” defeat the littlest lumberjack, or will Grizzly logroll his way to victory?
January 23rd: Check back later today at www.rohwrestling.com for the "Winter Savings Sale" where you can save 35% off your next order.
January 23rd: We’re excited to announce another match for “Proving Ground ‘09”. On February 7th in Orlando, Kenny King returns to ROH and will team with Rhett Titus to take on Chris Gray & Tommy Taylor, The British Lions. King’s YRR cohorts, Sal Rinauro and Chasyn Rance will also be a part of the festivities, so the deck already appears to be stacked against the newcomers from England. In any event, both teams are looking to prove their worth, and in Orlando, we’ll see who’s ready to take that next step.
January 23rd: ROH Officials have made several attempts to find out which members of Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated will battle inside the Steel Cage on the 31st. Larry Sweeney has refused to budge, citing “contractual loopholes” that allow him to suppress the information. “Those idiots said they wanted Sweet-N-Sour in the cage,” said Sweeney. “And that’s how the contract was drawn up. Now they want the specific names? Am I as dumb as Albright’s hair looks? Why would I concede an obvious advantage? Why would I clue them in? There’s no way in hell I’m talking, and no one will know who I’m bringing to Chicago until it’s time to get into the cage!”

January 27th Newswire
January 27th: Ring of Honor is very happy to announce a television partnership with HDnet TV. This is a landmark moment in company history, as for the first time ROH will have nationally broadcast programming on cable television. HDnet is the first network to feature all high-definition programming, and is at the cutting edge of modern broadcasting. Details of the announcement can be found at: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2524, with more specifics to come in the near future.
January 27th: Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries have been a thorn in the side of Tyler Black for quite some time. The most recent interaction between the three saw Jacobs and Aries interfere in Black's title match on 1/17 in Edison, NJ; a match that may have seen a Tyler Black championship win if not for outside interference. This coming Saturday in Chicago, Tyler will have company to take these two on in the form of none other than Bryan Danielson! Bryan is no stranger to Aries and Jacobs; he and Austin have been partners as well as opponents on numerous occasions, while Danielson and Jacobs recently clashed in Manassas where Jacobs scored the pinfall victory. This grudge match has explosive potential has tensions will most certainly be running at an all time high. Tickets for this big Pay Per View taping are now on sale at www.rohwrestling.com. You can save 35% off tickets (see below for details) until Thursday morning. For more information on the latest in Chicago indy wrestling visit www.ChicagoProWrestling.com.
January 27th: Ring of Honor is soon heading to the Sunshine State, and on February 6th in Coral Springs, FL, Davey Richards will take on Tyler Black in a special challenge match. When Richards' agent Larry Sweeney was asked for a comment, he had this to offer: "Sweet 'N' Sour Inc. is a group of closers, baby. We get the job done every time we're out there. And if there's one thing that Tyler Black proved in Edison, it's that he's not a closer. When that wet blanket gets in the ring with Davey Richards, it will be evident that Sweet 'N' Sour Inc. always takes care of business, one way or another!" Sweeney then had to excuse himself to take a phone call from what seemed to be a former client.
January 27th: Austin Aries was the man who led to the Necro Butcher's departure from the Age of the Fall, but now he seems to be aligned once again with Jimmy Jacobs, and that doesn't sit right with the Butcher. "Any friend of Jimmy Jacobs is an enemy of mine, and I want to see my enemies in only one place. In the ring." Necro will get his chance on 2/6 in Coral Springs when he locks horns with Austin Aries!
January 27th: ROH fans will get a chance to see two of Florida's most popular wrestlers in Coral Springs when Brad Attitude takes on Sean Osbourne. When asked for his thoughts, Brad said that "this Osbourne is a sneaky guy, but come February 6, he's got an attitude adjustment coming!" In Coral Springs we will find out if that's true when two of Florida's top stars square off.
January 27th: The Winter Savings Sale is now ongoing at www.rohwrestling.com. Don't miss your opportunity to save 35% off your next order. Full details including the discount code can be found here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338. Sale ends Thursday morning at 9am EST!!!
January 27th: ROH officials have been speaking with one of the top names in professional wrestling about a possible engagement in Florida. More details to follow

Canadian Conquerors
Tuesday, January 27, 2009
Kevin Steen & El Generico came into Ring of Honor with two simple goals: to prove they are the best tag team in the world and to become ROH World Tag Team Champions. Within a matter of months they lent credence to the first with phenomenal showings against the Briscoes and the Age of the Fall, among others. As for the second, Steen & Generico didn’t make good on that goal until September 19, 2008 at the “Driven” Pay Per View taping. That night, in Boston, the two Canadians…well the Canadian and Mexican…defeated Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black to become the 26th ROH World Tag Team Champions in a classic contest.
After a non-title victory over the Osirian Portal at “Ring of Homicide II”, and a World Title opportunity for each man at “The French Connection”, the champions stepped into the ring at “Bound by Hate” with their long-time foes, Jay & Mark Briscoe. For the first time Steen & Generico were the champions rather than challengers, and after a hard-hitting back-and-forth contest, they remained champions; finally taking that monkey off their back. Unfortunately, the joyous atmosphere was somewhat spoiled when the Briscoes engaged in a shoving match with Steen & Generico that ROH officials had to help quell.
At “Escalation”, another familiar foe stepped up to challenge the champions. Jimmy Jacobs, this time with Delirious as his partner, attempted to regain the tag titles but came up just short, and of course put the blame squarely on his partner’s shoulders. The following night at the “Rising Above” PPV taping, Steen & Generico once again squared off with Jay & Mark. Unfortunately for the Briscoes, Mark came into the match with an injured knee, and the champions took advantage of that injury to secure the victory. Once again the tension between the two teams degenerated into a fight that had to be broken apart by security.
Then, at “All Star Extravaganza IV”, it became apparent that the champions would have a new challenge to deal with in the future. Teamed with The Necro Butcher, Steen & Generico faced off against Tyler Black, Jimmy Jacobs, and Delirious. As Steen seemed to have the victory in hand, Davey Richards made his way to ringside and attacked Kevin’s knee with a pipe, costing his trio the match.
The next night, “Final Battle 2008”, Steen & Generico once again faced off with Jacobs & Delirious, and were once again victorious. The most shocking moment of the night came later when Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards, collectively The American Wolves, attacked the Briscoes following their match with Sasaki & Nakajima. With Jay handcuffed to the ropes, the duo went to work on Mark’s knee until Steen & Generico made the save for their bitter enemies.
As seen in an ROH Videowire following that night, Jay burst into the champion’s dressing room and uttered two words that seemed improbable given his history with Steen & Generico, “Thank you”.
ROH gave the champions the first weekend of 2009 off as a way to heal up their various injuries, specifically the knee of Steen that the Wolves had attacked. But now they make their return to competition this weekend in Detroit and Chicago Ridge. First off, Steen & Generico demanded to get their hands on Richards & Edwards in retaliation for their attacks in PA & NYC. Sweeney basically said it would only happen if the belt were on the line so the champions said bring it on. “Motor City Madness 2009” will mark the first tag title defense of the year: Kevin Steen & El Generico versus Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards; be sure to check out the upcoming ROH Videowire for comments from both teams.
In Chicago Ridge, as part of the “Caged Collision” PPV taping, the champions will step into singles competition in response to challenges made by other members of the ROH roster. First Claudio opened his mouth and told ROH officials that he wanted to face Brent Albright in Detroit. He followed that up by demanding a match with Kevin Steen to prove how he deserves to be with the elite in ROH, that he is championship material. Steen was more than happy to accept that challenge.
As for El Generico, well he found himself reading thru the ROH website (albeit thru a translator) and specifically looking at Nigel’s claim that there was no one left for him to defeat in Ring of Honor. Generico took exception to this and contacted ROH to demand a match with the arrogant World Champion. McGuinness, at first, refused, but after a few minutes decided that he would accept it because as he said, “…I’m a fighting champion…And I have made a name for myself living up to every challenge that stood before me. If the fans want me to wrestle on the Pay-Per-View, and if they want me to fight that masked tart again, then I’ll oblige. And trust me, Generico will regret it.”
The men who battled long and hard to accomplish their two goals mentioned earlier now find themselves in a position where they have to defend both accomplishments. Will Steen & Generico make it out of the Motor City with the tag titles still in their possession? Can each man put down their individual challenges in Chicago Ridge? Kevin & Generico both believe they can do it, and they certainly have the drive and determination to emerge victorious. Great tickets are still available for both events right here at www.rohwrestling.com, will you be there to see if these two athletes can make good on their promises? |

Multi-Time Champion Headed To ROH
Tuesday, January 27, 2009
January 27th: ROH officials have been speaking with one of the top names in professional wrestling about a possible engagement in Florida. More details to follow…
Earlier today, as part of the ROH Newswire, Ring of Honor made the preceding announcement. Now with the negotiations put to bed, we can officially announce which top shelf competitor will be making their way to ROH during the “Proving Ground ’09” weekend in Florida. It’s a weekend in which many different competitors will be given an opportunity to showcase their skills for the first time in Ring of Honor, and we are proud to announce the addition of one more name.
On February 7th in Orlando, FL, for one night only, D-Lo Brown will look to prove himself inside the ROH ring. D-Lo is a former WWF Intercontinental & European champion, a former NWA World Tag Champion, and a former GHC Heavyweight Tag Champion. Now he is looking to forge a name for himself here in ROH. “I hear how great the wrestlers in ROH are,” said D-Lo. “And I look forward to showing the fans that it’s okay to still be down with the brown. After the 7th in Orlando, I’m sure all of ROH will be too.”
The question remains: who D-Lo will face in Orlando? ROH officials will have that announcement next in the Newswire! |

Very minimal hype for Chicago/Deroit. Of course there are east coast markets that need all the focus as always.
LOL on D Lo.
Where's the hype for Titus/Redwood and Silas/Sugarfoot? Why does anyone paying wrestlers in ROH think that many of us really want to see Silas. At times I think you guys tolerate him and pretend to like him. |

January 28th Newswire
January 28: Ring of Honor officials have just signed several matches for “Proving Ground ‘09” weekend, specifically the Orlando event on February 7th. Two of the Sunshine’s State’s best will get an opportunity to prove themselves against ROH’s best while four men aim to continue their brutal relations. The first match signed pits Shawn Osbourne against the legendary Jerry Lynn in a contest that will truly test the measure of Osbourne. A great showing here will go a long way towards securing Osbourne more ROH matches, and a victory over the former World Champion Lynn could skyrocket Osbourne’s career to heights he’s never seen. Lynn had this to say, “I’m looking forward to taking on one of Florida’s best on the 7th. But if Osbourne is looking to make his name off me, than he better bring his A-game. I’m not going to underestimate the guy, but Osbourne you should know that my eyes are squarely on Nigel McGuinness and the ROH World title, and I plan to beat everybody in my way until I get another shot!”
January 28: The second match signed for February 7 in Orlando will pit former ROH World Champion Austin Aries against local favorite and FIP standout, Brad Attitude. As with the match between Jerry Lynn and Shawn Osbourne, this qualifies as Attitude’s opportunity to show the world what he’s got, and a victory over Aries would certainly take his stock to a whole new level. When asked for comment, Aries responded, “Another match, another page in the Manifesto.”
January 28: And also signed for Orlando is a battle that will see four men, all very familiar with each other, battle it out in a Tag Team Grudge match. The Necro Butcher & Tyler Black both have a boatload of reasons for wanting to get their hands on Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious, and on February 7th in Orlando they will get that opportunity. When Black & Butcher will go to war against Jacobs & Delirious on 2/7, there’s no telling what kind of chaos will result. Putting this much hate in one ring at the same time won’t be pretty.

January 29: We received a special bulletin from the ROH Booking Committee late last night as it pertains to the huge tag team grudge match coming up on Saturday in Chicago. The bulletin, in its entirety, is printed below.
“It has been close to two weeks since the main event World Championship Match in Edison, NJ between Tyler Black and ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness. Ring of Honor Officials have been conducting interviews in an attempt to determine what, if any, foul play was involved in the 60-Minute Time Limit Stoppage as investigation has determined that the match did indeed end approximately 10 minutes prior to what would have been a legitimate 60 minutes. The assigned timekeeper, Giuseppe di Lorento, was among the first to be interviewed, and as he’s stated publicly, he vehemently believes that his timepiece was registering the allotted 60 minutes when he rang the bell to signal the end of regulation time.
ROH Officials can not find any significant evidence to suggest that Mr. di Lorento participated in any collusion or conspired with any entity to undermine the conclusion of the match in any way. Furthermore, despite rumors to the contrary and seemingly circumstantial evidence, ROH Officials are not able to find any solid connection between Nigel McGuinness himself and the timing mishap. Interviews with David Prazak and Lenny Leonard yielded some interesting information that was ultimately deemed coincidental. McGuinness gave full cooperation to ROH and willingly answered every question posed to him in reference to the event, and regardless of potential motive, ROH Officials can not place blame on McGuinness for what happened. Tyler Black also submitted complete statements to ROH Officials, and while rightfully upset at the outcome of the contest, he could not provide any information that would lead ROH Officials to order a restart of the match, or order a rematch altogether.
ROH Officials realize that these findings will not sit particularly well with those in attendance in Edison that night, or to fans of Tyler Black in general. And while the ROH Booking Committee is not satisfied with the findings of the investigation, they must respect them. That fact, however, does not mean that Ring of Honor will not take action.
The one undeniable piece that contributed to the unfortunate conclusion of that great match in Edison is the melee that ensued with several members of the ROH roster, each of whom has also been interviewed at length. And while ROH Officials find it excessive to penalize each and every person involved in the fracas, they have decided to levy a measure of punishment against the man that started it to begin with. Jimmy Jacobs appeared on the rampway during the contest, which worked as an obvious distraction to Tyler Black & the referee. That action, however, was not of a direct physical nature, that is, Jacobs did not at that point come into physical contact with Black. The man responsible for taking the initial physical action and thereby starting the chaos that ensued was Austin Aries.
As a result of Aries’ actions, ROH Officials have decided to strip him of the ROH World Championship match he earned by virtue of defeating Tyler Black at Final Battle. Furthermore, ROH Officials have decided that the Tag Team match scheduled for this Saturday at “Caged Collision” in Chicago will take on an interesting twist.
The match will still take place; Tyler Black will team with Bryan Danielson to face Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries.
The newly added stipulation is this: Whoever secures victory for their team will earn the ROH Title shot stripped from Aries, and they will be able to exercise that shot at the belt at any time or any place of their choosing, with or without prior authorization from ROH Officials.
This means that while each twosome will have to work as a team during the contest, they’re also in essence working for themselves to secure their own personal future. The winner of the match will essentially hold a wild card to “call their shot” at a future ROH Event.
ROH Officials apologize for the unfortunate outcome of what was otherwise a fabulous match in Edison, and hope that in some small way this ruling will right the wrongs of that night. Thank you.”

January 29: Nigel McGuinness will be in action when ROH returns to Florida for “Proving Ground ‘09” on February 6 in Coral Springs. “I have been begging ROH to find me some fresh challengers for some time now”, McGuinness quipped. “I’ve been on record as stating the obvious – I’ve beaten everyone over and over. But, you know, there’s someone I haven’t beaten to a pulp. In fact I don’t know that I’ve even faced him. If I did, he surely didn’t make any kind of impression or I’d remember. That man is Brent Albright. Sure, he’s been a World Champion in our sport, and sure, he’s been at the top of the ladder. But you know, mate, he’s never faced me. Never been in there with a real champion like me. I think I’d like to have a go with ol’ Albrecht – Albright – whatever. Of course I won’t put the belt up against him straight away, but at least those heathens in Coral Springs will be graced by my presence.” When the possibility was brought up that he may not have the title come 2/6 and 2/7, Nigel laughed, “Are you serious, love? That masked Generico hasn’t been able to get it done before, and he won’t in Chicago either.” Before he left, Nigel offered up one last statement. “And I’ve been paying attention to the news”, said McGuinness. “I follow the industry, mate. So I’ve also got my eye on a certain somebody else I’ve never faced, and I think I’ve got an idea for him.”

Steel Cage War!
Thursday, January 29, 2009
For the better part of two years Larry Sweeney has built an army. Starting with Chris Hero at “International Challenge” in December of 2006, Sweeney has attempted to buy off any wrestler he thinks he can sell for a profit. Johnny Fairplay, Matt Sydal, Tank Toland, Bobby Dempsey, Sara Del Rey, Daniel Puder, Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Shane Hagadorn, Davey Richards, and Eddie Edwards have all taken money from the Bank of Sweeney.
To their credit, BJ Whitmer, Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens, and the Briscoes have all refused offers from Sweeney. Brent Albright quickly realized the error of his ways and violently tendered his resignation at “A New Level”. Not being one to take rejection kindly, Sweeney has made done his best to make life hell for all those who turned their back on his money. Whitmer was laid to waste at “Take No Prisoners”, Roderick Strong was decimated at “Respect is Earned II”, Erick Stevens was brutally attacked at “Bound by Hate”, Mark Briscoe was taken out of the equation at “Final Battle 2008”, and Albright’s face was nearly burned off at “Vendetta II”. These assaults are only small examples of the many ways Sweet & Sour Inc. have attempted to remove their opponents from Ring of Honor.
Finally at “Final Battle 2008”, after months and months of attacks, disruptions, and blatant disregard for the rules, Brent Albright pleaded with ROH Owner Cary Silkin to give him, and his team, S&S in a Steel Cage war. On the heels of an attack on both Briscoes, as well as Steen & Generico, it was obvious something needed to be done, that Sweeney and his men needed to face some repercussions for their actions. So it was declared that on January 31st, in Chicago Ridge, IL, Albright and his team would face a team representing Sweet & Sour Inc. inside a Steel Cage!
Albright immediately had Strong & Stevens on his side, and following more blatant interference from Sweeney in Manassas, and New Jersey, as well as the crippling knee injury inflicted on his brother, Jay Briscoe demanded that he be included on the Albright’s team. This leaves one spot left to be filled on the team for this five-on-five war that will highlight the “Caged Collision” Pay-Per-View.
As for Sweeney’s team, well citing a loophole in the verbiage of the contract Larry Sweeney upholds that he does NOT have to disclose the five men, or women, who will represent him inside the Steel Cage. It could be anyone ever contracted to Sweeney in the “illustrious” history of Sweet & Sour Inc., and looking at the list above, that could be a team of intimidating proportions. In Sweeney’s words: “Those idiots said they wanted Sweet-N-Sour in the cage, and that’s how the contract was drawn up. Now they want the specific names? Am I as dumb as Albright’s hair looks? Why would I concede an obvious advantage? Why would I clue them in? There’s no way in hell I’m talking, and no one will know who I’m bringing to Chicago until it’s time to get into the cage!”
When asked for comment Albright simply said, “Bring whoever you got Sweeney. You can bring every idiot that ever bought what you were selling, and it won’t matter. We got the cage, you got no way out. No weaseling, no running or hiding, someone is going to bleed! And maybe that someone will be you!!!”
Don't miss out on seeing "Caged Collision" live this weekend at the Chicago Ridge Park District, 9807 Sayre Ave., Chicago Ridge, IL 60415. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on the night of the show. |
