February 2nd Newswire
February 2nd: Everyone here at Ring of Honor sends a humongous THANK YOU to the great fans of Detroit and Chicago for making the events of the past weekend a wonderful success! ROH returns to the Motor City on Friday, June 26th and to the Windy City on Saturday, April 25th. Tickets for both events are now on sale at www.rohwrestling.com. This past Saturday's event called "Caged Collision" will debut on Pay-Per-View Friday, April 17th.
February 2nd: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness escaped Chicago with the gold after defeating El Generico at “Caged Collision”. We now know he will defend the title on February 7th in Orlando. ROH officials spoke with Nigel late last night, and an agreement was made. “People come to ROH to prove themselves,” said Nigel. “And this coming weekend in Florida is all about that. But it isn’t just up-and-coming grapplers that have to prove something; it’s also the top shelf talent like me, and even has-beens like Geritol Lynn. Now another has-been can add his name to the list. And that’s you D-Lo Brown. Sure, everyone knows your name, and I can’t really downplay your achievements in wrestling, but c’mon sunshine, why are you coming to ROH? To prove yourself! And you will, because you’re only getting one shot, love. And that’s against me in Orlando. And just to show that I know you’re far past your prime, I’ll put up the title and prove once again that ROH has no one to challenge me. One shot, Mr. Brown. That’s all you’ve got.”
February 2nd: Ring of Honor officials announced the very first ROH television tapings will take place in Philadelphia on Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st! ROH and HDNet officials selected Philadelphia due to the city’s passionate fans and extensive wrestling history. Now you can add another historic event to that already rich Philly wrestling heritage. Tickets for the event on the 28th are already on sale. Tickets for the March 1st (special 3pm bell time) event will go on sale this coming Wednesday at 10am EST at www.rohwrestling.com. You don’t want to miss what will go down as perhaps the most important weekend in ROH history! We’ll have talent announcements and updates as we go forward.
February 2nd: Fresh off of the huge victory over Sweet-N-Sour inside the Steel Cage last Saturday, Roderick Strong and Erick Stevens were probably looking forward to a little “R and R”. But it doesn’t look like that will happen. Chasyn Rance, Kenny King, and Rhett Titus have signed an open contract to face Strong, Stevens, and a partner of their choosing in Coral Springs on February 6. “We know those guys can’t possibly be 100%, especially not after that cage match, and we’re striking while the iron is hot,” said Kenny King. “The time is now, and now is OUR time.”
February 2nd: Bryan Danielson suffered a concussion after being powerbombed brutally to the floor by Bison Smith last Saturday at “Caged Collision”. Danielson is still scheduled to be in Florida for “Proving Ground ‘09” this weekend, but his status for the events is up in the air at this point. We still do not know what the agenda of the massive Bison is, and Kyle Durden's attempt to get comments gave as no further answers. Durden's "interview" will be in this week's Video Wire.
February 2nd: The BIG TEN SALE continues at www.rohwrestling.com until Wednesday night at 9pm EST. We have over 100 DVD's on sale for $10 each, tickets for all events in February for only $10 each, plus save an additional 10% off your order. For complete details on the sale click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=860.
February 2nd: ROH Referee Paul Turner made a crucial judgment call last Friday night in Detroit that has upset Brent Albright and left Claudio Castagnoli elated. In the closing moments of the contest, Albright had Castagnoli locked in the Crowbar. Claudio was able to make contact with the ropes, which would necessitate a break. Albright did not break the hold, sending an apparent message to Larry Sweeney who was “observing” the match. Referee Turner began the customary “5 count” when Albright would not break the hold. The excruciating pain from the hold got to Castagnoli, as he tapped out just as Turner reached the count of 5. Rather than award Albright the decision via submission, he disqualified him for not breaking hold before the allotted count of 5. “In any situation, the rulebook is our world,” said Turner. “And I know Brent is upset. Even though Claudio submitted, it was to a hold that was ‘illegal’ in its application because of the contact with the ropes.” ROH officials stand behind Turner’s decision, and several phone calls from both Albright and Castagnoli on this subject have been fielded in the last 48 hours.

Free At Last!

It's been a long time coming for Bobby Dempsey. From the moment Tank Toland took Bobby under his so-called tutelage back at "Good Times, Great Memories", life has been a living hell for the kid from New Jersey. He has been verbally berated, physically abused, emotionally broken, and had devolved into a shell of the young man who debuted in July of 2005 at the pre-show before "The Homecoming". At that time Bobby Dempsey showed the heart of a lion, and yearned to perfect his chosen craft alongside his brother as a tag team unit. Unfortunately things don't always work out as people want, Bobby found himself alone in the wrestling world, and eventually sucked into the Sweet & Sour Inc. "family". Be it thru a desire to become part of a group, or maybe the belief Tank genuinely wanted to help him, Bobby became the whipping boy for Sweeney, Hero, and the crew. Smacked, kicked, even bloodied by his "family", Dempsey spent the better part of two years on the receiving end of countless forms of physical abuse as his self-worth slowly eroded. It took the tough love of Brent Albright to finally get Bobby to open his eyes. Since "A New Level", when Albright viciously turned in his own S&S resignation, Brent had tried to get thru to the 300-pounder but it seemed Bobby had fallen so far, he was beyond hope. Maybe it was the whipping he received in Edison while the Wolves warmed up for their strap match that really woke him up, maybe it was the blood that poured down his face at "Caged Collision" that made him come to his senses, or maybe it was Sweeney's disgusting saliva dripping down Bobby's forehead that truly caused the Blonde Bomber to snap. Whatever it was, Dempsey finally had enough of being slapped around and being forced to hide under the ring. He had enough of being kicked by Richards, of having his hair ripped out by Hagadorn, and of being used a punching bag for Hero. Dempsey had had his full, and Sweeney finally felt two years of frustration when Bobby slapped him senseless inside that Steel Cage to the very vocal approval of all those in attendance Saturday night. After being bounced around the cage and bloodied, Larry felt the full force of Dempsey's rage as the big man cannonballed into Sweeney's skull, then drove him headfirst into the canvas with a Death Valley Driver. Soaked in his own blood, Dempsey roared in sweet relief as Albright, Strong, Stevens, Briscoe, and Steel embraced him. Freedom was finally his, and the taste of it was sweet. So what does the future hold for Bobby Dempsey? For the first time in a long time, that's his choice to make. He is in control of his own fate, his own destiny, and that feeling must be grand after all this time. One thing we do know is that Bobby will be in Coral Springs & Orlando this weekend, and that he wants to repay the men who helped him see the light anyway he can. "If it wasn't for Brent and Roddy and the guys, I don't know what I would've done bud." Bobby commented, "But I just want 'em to know I appreciate everything they did, and that I wanna repay it if I can." Dempsey may get his chance as ROH goes down to the Sunshine State this Friday & Saturday, but he also has the chance of having to face severe repercussions. Larry Sweeney isn't one to let a slap in the face go unanswered, much less everything else Bobby did to him last Saturday night, so Dempsey better keep an eye out as he makes his way south down on I-95. |

February 4th Newswire
February 4th: Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious seemingly cemented their relationship last Saturday in Chicago. This Friday night in Coral Springs, they’ll have a chance to prove it. Delirious has been a shadow of his former self as of late, with his wins and losses as sporadic and unpredictable as his behavior has been. As Daizee Haze mistakenly drove the spike into the head of Delirious at “Caged Collision”, Jimmy Jacobs took to consoling the masked lizard man as the Haze looked on in utter shock. The question is whether or not this will bring focus to the once-loved Delirious. “I only show Delirious what he already knows to be true,” said Jacobs. “And his loyalty is unbreakable. When charlatans like Necro and Tyler have turned their backs to walk away from the revolution, Delirious has remained steadfast. And for that, his reward shall be ten-fold. His clarity is my greatest glory, and Haze has finally learned that what she has can’t save, yet only enslave.” The first test of Delirious’ new found “clarity” is a huge one, as he and Jacobs will team to face Jerry Lynn and Bryan Danielson in Coral Springs. Lynn scored a victory over Delirious in Chicago while teaming with the Necro Butcher, while Jacobs holds a victory over Danielson as recent as Manassas. Don’t forget that Danielson is still suffering the effects of the brutal powerbomb he suffered at the hands of Bison Smith last weekend.
February 4th: Speaking of the monstrous Bison Smith, he has signed to compete in both Coral Springs and Orlando for “Proving Ground ‘09”. These events will mark the first “official” appearances for Smith in ROH and no one on the ROH Booking Committee knows what to expect.
February 4th: Larry Sweeney made several heated phone calls to ROH officials, claiming that he’s suffered “permanent neck damage” as a result of the beating he faced in the cage to end “Caged Collision” in Chicago. He claims that the Death Valley Driver that Bobby Dempsey leveled him with has left him “physically unable to professionally compete in any fashion” going forward; and he’s threatened to sue Ring of Honor and Dempsey if a monetary settlement isn’t reached. Sweeney will still lead Davey Richards into Florida, facing Tyler Black on Friday in Coral Springs, and just announced, facing Kevin Steen in singles action on Saturday in Orlando! “I’ve got my eyes on Sweeney and the Wolves,” said Steen. And even though we defended the belts against them in Detroit, this is far from over. I want a crack at Davey man-to-man. We’ll see what he’s really made of when his man-pal Edwards isn’t there to watch his backside.”
February 4th: With Steen signing to face Davey Richards in what promises to be a heated grudge battle, El Generico took it upon himself to sign what he thought was an open contract for this Saturday in Orlando. Turns out it was an indeed an open contract of sorts, an open contract to face Bryan Danielson on February 7th! With both parties signed and delivered, Generico and Danielson will hook up in what surely will be a crowd pleaser! As stated earlier, the only question is whether or not Danielson will be 100% physically, and he has yet to comment either way. One thing is for certain, in any event. With this contest we could bear witness to a classic, and the fans of Orlando are in for a treat!
February 4th: The latest edition of the ROH Video Wire is posted here: http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=BsPQ4s5niwg.
February 4th: Quick reminder that the BIG TEN SALE ends tonight at 9pm EST. For complete details click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=860
February 4th: We’ll have news on the very first ROH National Television tapings in this Thursday's Newswire! The tapings for the upcoming debut on HDNet will take place on Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st in Philadelphia at the Arena. Tickets are on sale now at www.rohwrestling.com. |

February 5th Newswire
February 5th: Ring of Honor heads to Florida this weekend for "Proving Ground 2009" Weekend. It kicks off tomorrow (Friday) night at the Coral Springs Gymnasium, 2501 Coral Springs Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33065. Bell time is 8:00pm. "Proving Ground 2009 Night 1" features ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness vs. Brent Albright; Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards, World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Dark City Fight Club; Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn vs. Delirious & Jimmy Jacobs; Austin Aries vs. The Necro Butcher; Kenny King, Chasyn Rance, & Rhett Titus vs. Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens, & ???; plus more. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on the night of the show. February 5th: On Saturday night we return to Orlando, FL for "Proving Ground 2009 Night 2" at the Orlando Downtown Recreation Complex, 649 West Livingston Street, Orlando, FL 32801. Bell time is 7:30pm. This event features: Nigel McGuinness vs. D-Lo Brown for the ROH World Title; Bryan Danielson vs. El Generico; Tyler Black & The Necro Butcher vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious; Kevin Steen vs. Davey Richards; plus Austin Aries, Jerry Lynn, Brent Albright, Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens, & more. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on the night of the show.
February 5th: Newly signed, six man tag team action comes to Orlando on Saturday. The Dark City Fight Club will team with frequent Florida cohort, Francisco Ciatso, to take on the team of Roderick Strong, Brent Albright, and Erick Stevens. ROH fans know exactly what Strong, Stevens, and Albright bring to the table, especially after their bloody victory at “Cage Collision”. Just what do the DCFC and Ciatso have in store for this trio? On Saturday in Orlando we’ll find out!
February 5th: Bryan Danielson informed ROH officials that he’s not 100% going into “Proving Ground ‘09” weekend, but he’s prepared to “give it everything he’s got”. As we touched on earlier in the week, Danielson suffered a concussion at the hands of Bison Smith in Chicago. “I’ve been around Bison quite a bit,” said Dragon. “Been around him in Japan and elsewhere, and never before have I seen him act this way. Something happened to Bison, and somewhere along the line he decided it was okay to try to maim me. Look at that man, I’m lucky to have escaped serious injury. But rest assured, I’m far from done with Bison. In fact, I intend to make it right.”
February 5th: Get ready Philadelphia! We’re a few short weeks away from the very first Ring of Honor National Television Tapings, coming to the Arena in South Philly on February 28 and March 1. HDNet and ROH aim to bring the newest and best wrestling program to US airwaves, and everyone at HDNet and ROH are excited to be working together to present this to the fans. Already signed for the tapings are Tyler Black, Kevin Steen, Chris Hero, Austin Aries, Jerry Lynn, and Jimmy Jacobs, with many more Stars of Ring of Honor to be announced as we move forward. One of the more unique aspects of presenting these tapings is wonderful opportunity to expose the great competitors of ROH to a brand new audience – one that we concede may not be familiar with the personality and style that ROH is known for. With that in mind, ROH Officials are looking at the initial tapings as a way to bring our new audience “up to speed”. On February 28 and March 1, fans will see a sort of a “Ring of Honor 101” up close and personal as we introduce our wrestlers, their personalities, and their skill in competitive matches that may not otherwise be seen on “normal” Ring of Honor live events. There is no telling what matchups we could see during the weekend, but rest assured, whoever locks up with each other will be doing so with an entirely new agenda – to say to the television world – Welcome to what professional wrestling is supposed to be. WELCOME to RING OF HONOR. We hope to see you all on 2/28 and 3/1 in South Philly!

ROH’s 7th Anniversary!
Monday, February 09, 2009
Anniversaries are a time of celebration and joy, a time to reflect on years past, and a time to look ahead to the coming of the next 12 months. It’s no different with Ring of Honor. As we pass each anniversary, ROH looks on the previous year, and strives to make the coming year even better for our fans than the last. And each year we celebrate our birthday with one, two, or as was the case in 2007, five separate shows presenting some of the best wrestling around. The “One Year Anniversary Show” was a landmark for Ring of Honor, not only because it marked the company’s first full year in business, but also because it heralded ROH’s debut in New York. Main evented by one of the most insane Scramble Matches in company history, this landmark card also marked an ROH Title match between Xavier and Paul London, as well as a Three Way Dance between London, Low Ki, and AJ Styles to earn that title shot. That night also brought the fans Jay & Mark Briscoe’s last singles match against one another for several years, as well as Bryan Danielson versus Samoa Joe, and the infamous riot that stemmed from the Steve Corino and Homicide singles contest. It was an epic way to cap off the first 12 months, and set the tone for the next twelve. The “Second Anniversary Show” emanated from Braintree, MA and showcased a Pure Wrestling tournament involving eight of the best wrestlers in ROH. CM Punk, John Walters, Doug Williams, Chris Sabin, Matt Stryker, Josh Daniels, AJ Styles, and Jimmy Rave all competed in a single elimination tournament to be crowned the Pure Wrestling champion. After defeating Rave and Stryker to make it to the finals, AJ Styles beat CM Punk and was declared the first Pure Wrestling champion. Low Ki also made his long awaited return to an ROH ring as he competed against BJ Whitmer, Dan Maff, and Samoa Joe in a match for Joe’s World Title. The Samoan retained his title that evening and would go on to hold it for 21 months, a record that still stands to this day. The “Third Anniversary Celebration” was the first time ROH’s birthday was taken on tour. Held in three different cities in seven days, this birthday party also saw the return of several familiar faces as well as the debut of others. “Part One” was held at the historic Rexplex in Newark, NJ, and was highlighted by two Steel Cage matches. The first pit recently crowned ROH World Champion Austin Aries against Colt Cabana with the title on the line in match in which the champion retained. The second cage match was fought under Scramble Cage rules, and saw the Ring Crew Express finally defeat their long time enemies, The Carnage Crew. That night also saw Spanky return to ROH (he initially came back at “It All Begins” but this was the first anniversary show he was on), as well as new Tag Champions crowned with Dan Maff & BJ Whitmer beating the Havana Pitbulls. Mick Foley, as well as representatives from Osaka Pro Wrestling in Japan, made appearances in New Jersey that night, and it was a great way to kick off ROH’s 3rd year. “Part 2” of the celebration took place in Dayton, OH, and marked the debut of James Gibson in an ROH ring as he was victorious in his match-up against Spanky. Also that night Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe united to take on Austin Aries & Jack Evans in a tag match, while Jimmy Rave defeated his one-time mentor AJ Styles. As a side note, a very different Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious teamed up that night to face Maff & Whitmer in a non-title contest. “Part 3” came from Chicago Ridge, IL and hosted the rematch between Aries & Joe for the ROH World Title. Once again Aries was successful in defeating Joe, and thus retaining his title. CM Punk also faced Jimmy Rave that night and was defeated, Jim Cornette & Bobby Heenan made special appearances that night, and ended up managing teams opposite on another. The team of McGuinness & Cabana representing Heenan defeated Maff & Whitmer who represented Cornette, and the Best-of-5 series between Homicide & Danielson raged on in a Falls Count Anywhere match where Danielson scored his first victory in the series. ROH’s “Fourth Anniversary Show” was held in Edison, NJ as the inaugural event of what became known as The Milestone Series. For a night that was supposed to be a celebration, it was certainly anything but. Wrestlers from CZW, lead by Chris Hero, invaded the building, interrupting the Chris Daniels vs. BJ Whitmer match, and trying their best to ruin the evening before being chased off by the ROH locker room. Despite that black eye on the night, there was still some fantastic wrestling as Bryan Danielson retained the ROH World Title opposite Jimmy Rave and Aries & Strong retained their Tag Titles against Matt Sydal & AJ Styles. The “Fifth Year Festival” was as epic in scope as it was monumental in its impact: 5 events in 4 locations over 3 weeks, and when all was said and done, two major things had changed in Ring of Honor. The first night took place in New York City, and saw the ROH debut of Takeshi Morishima as he fell to Samoa Joe. BJ Whitmer and Brent Albright had an insane Tables match, while Roderick Strong violently turned his back on Austin Aries after their ROH Tag Title loss to Chris Daniels & Matt Sydal, and Homicide retained the ROH World title against Jimmy Rave.
The next night in Philadelphia, ROH fans saw the crowning of a new champion when Morishima pinned Homicide in the center of the ring. Sydal & Daniels retained their titles over SHINGO & Jack Evans, Strong retained the FIP title over Delirious in brutal fashion, and Kevin Steen & El Generico blew the roof of the National Guard Armory in their match against Jay & Mark Briscoe. It was a landscape changing evening in Philly, and there was more to come before the “5th Year Festival” was thru. ROH then traveled to Dayton where Morishima made his first successful defense against BJ Whitmer, Matt Sydal retained his Open the Brave Gate title against Aries, and Claudio Castagnoli emerged victorious in one of the best Six Man Mayhem’s in ROH history. The following night in Chicago was sad in some ways because it marked the last U.S. show for Samoa Joe until he recently returned at “Rising Above 2008”. That night Morishima & McGuinness faced Joe & Homicide in a tag battle where Nigel beat Joe following a vicious lariat. Also that evening, Colt Cabana ended his bitter feud with Jimmy Jacobs in a Windy City Deathmatch while Jay & Mark Briscoe won the ROH Tag Titles from Daniels & Sydal. Even with all that, there were still two events left on the “Fifth Year Festival” tour, both stemming from Liverpool in the UK. The first night Joe got a modicum of revenge when he pinned Nigel while the Briscoes’ tag reign came to an abrupt end against SHINGO & Naruki Doi. On the final night of the Festival, Joe bid farewell to ROH with an emotional victory over Homicide as Jay & Mark Briscoe locked horns for the first time in 4 years. It’s hard to top that 5-night event, but ROH did it’s level best with the “6th Anniversary Show” coming from the famed Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center in NYC. Headlined by an epic ROH World Title match between champion Nigel McGuinness and challenger Bryan Danielson, the night also featured Rocky Romero & Davey Richards retaining their Tag Titles against Ruckus & Jigsaw, Roderick Strong retaining the FIP title opposite Erick Stevens & The Necro Butcher, as well as an impressive contest between Austin Aries & Go Shiozaki. Not even the machinations of The Age of the Fall nor Sweet & Sour Inc. were enough to ruin this birthday party. If anything, McGuinness retaining the title in such an underhanded fashion did more to spoil the celebration than anything else. So here we are 7 years later, with Ring of Honor on the precipice of its 7th birthday, and my how things have changed. Once briefly available on just a local Philadelphia TV station, ROH is on the verge of debuting nationally on HDNet, and just finished taping its 11th Pay-Per-View event in suburban Chicago. Since 2002, the fan base has grown, the reach of ROH has expanded across the nation, and the company has even traveled to Japan and the UK. So much of that success is due to you, the loyal fans, who have supported our cause for the last seven years. Now it’s time again for ROH to once again say thank you and announce that this years anniversary extravaganza will take place on March 21st at the renowned Hammerstein Ballroom in the heart of NYC! We pride ourselves in always bringing our best to the Big Apple, and you can rest assured that that will be the case as we throw a birthday party like you’ve never seen. Please join us in New York City on 3/21 as we bring you our “7th Anniversary Show”! Great tickets are available right here at www.rohwrestling.com. |

February 9th Newswire
February 9: We’d like to extend a great big thank you to the wonderful fans in Coral Springs and Orlando for two great events. “Proving Ground ’09” served its purpose, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the central Florida fans!
February 9th: As announced earlier today on the main page at ROHWrestling.com, the "7th Anniversary Show" will take place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Saturday, March 21st. Tickets are on sale now. For a look back at the history of the Anniversary Show read here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2575.
February 9: Executives and crew from HDNet were on site in Orlando and were blown away by the talent that the ROH stars brought to the table that night. HDNet film crews captured lots of footage before and during the event in preparation for the huge National Television Tapings scheduled for Philadelphia on 2/28 and 3/1. This is the kind of opportunity that ROH has waited for and the time is near. Tickets are available for both days at http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=products&catid=163. Don’t miss out! This is wrestling history as ROH comes to National TV!
February 9: Brent Albright still believes that he defeated Claudio Castagnoli in Detroit on January 30th. “If Turner (the referee) hadn’t disqualified me, I win, it’s that simple”, said Albright. “He was tapping out, and he knows it.” Castagnoli, on the other hand, had nothing good to say about Albright. “He is a big American oaf. He lost in Detroit because he is stupid.” Kyle Durden was recently able to get comments from both men, and a challenge was issued. Stay tuned to the ROH Video Wire later this week for all the details.
February 9th: There are two new sales in effect this week at www.rohwrestling.com. With the first sale you can save 20% Off your next order placed on the website. We also have a sale where you can save $5-$10 off ALL ticket purchases for upcoming Ring of Honor live events. With any ticket order you can combine both sales to save even more money on your ticket purchase. For complete details on the sale click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2215.
February 9: Are you a musician? Have any interest in National exposure? If so, we can help each other! ROH is in need of original music for the upcoming HDNet television program, and if you’ve got original music that you think would fit ROH or one of its stars, we want to talk to you! We’d love nothing more than to be able to give National exposure to up-and-coming musicians in exchange for your talents! If interested, please email rohwayne@gmail.com and let us know where we can hear you do your thing!
February 9: We’ll be back tomorrow with more names for the HDNet Television tapings as well as the big live event in Danbury on February 27th!

February 10th Newswire
February 10th: El Generico will not be appearing in Danbury on 2/27 nor at the TV tapings on 2/28 and 3/1. He was attacked by Davey Richards after the Orlando event this past Saturday and has suffered a knee injury. Once again the “Wolves” target another knee. Larry Sweeney ignored all requests for comment. Kevin Steen had already left the building when the attack occurred, and he has assured ROH officials that he will be in Danbury and Philadelphia, and he wants revenge in the worst way. We have been told that footage of the attack will be included in an upcoming Videowire.
February 10th: ROH Officials are happy to announce that Sterling James Keenan will return to ROH as he will be appearing in Philadelphia on 2/28 as part of the HDNet National Television tapings. ROH Officials are high on Keenan’s ability and look forward to seeing what impact he’ll make with this opportunity.
February 10th: The fans of Danbury will be in store for a top-notch ROH World Title match on February 27. ROH Officials are currently negotiating with the potential challengers to Nigel McGuinness, who defeated D-Lo Brown in Orlando. Several competitors have legitimate claims to a title shot, and we will announce this match before the week is over.
February 10th: Sami Callahan has impressed in his ROH appearances thus far, and on 2/27 in Danbury he’ll face his toughest test yet as he’ll oppose Austin Aries. Aries and his new attitude have rubbed everyone the wrong way, and his odd relationship with Jimmy Jacobs doesn’t help. Aries has yet to unveil the “A-Double Manifesto”, but assured ROH officials that “Callahan will be lucky if he even gets a mention in the glossary”.
February 10th: Fresh off their impressive debut at “Proving Ground ‘09”, Kory Chavis and Jon Davis – the Dark City Fight Club, will appear in Philadelphia for the HDNet tapings on 2/28 and 3/1.
February 10th: Look for the latest edition of the ROH Video Wire to be posted later today at www.rohvideos.com. |

February 11th Newswire
February 11th: ROH wishes to extend a big thank you to all of the generous musicians who have offered music to be used on the upcoming HDNet show. Several fans have wondered if all of the ROH entrance music will change. Due to copyright law, we simply have no choice in the matter. ROH Officials would love nothing more than to keep using all of the music we’ve all come to know and relate to our performers, but financially it isn’t feasible and we are excited to work with up-and-coming musicians to craft new tunes which will no doubt become as synonymous with the ROH stars as the music they currently enter to. Should you have a submission or a suggestion, please send it to rohwayne@gmail.com, and once again, a huge thank you to those who have provided the countless submissions we’ve received thus far.
February 11th: ROH is happy to announce that “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush has signed and will compete on 3/20 in Elizabeth, PA and on 3/21 as part of ROH’s "7 Year Anniversary Show". ROH is also in negotiations with other high profile talent for that weekend. Stay tuned.
February 11th: The Necro Butcher and Brodie Lee couldn’t settle anything in Detroit as their match turned into a brawl and was ruled a double-countout. Since then, Necro gained a small measure of revenge on the monstrous Lee as he and Jerry Lynn were victorious over Lee and Delirious at “Caged Collision”. That measure of satisfaction is apparently not enough for Necro as he has contacted the ROH Booking Committee and demanded another match with Brodie Lee for 2/27 in Danbury. The Rampage Continues...
Thursday, February 12, 2009
Since “Full Circle” in Manassas at the beginning of January, Ring of Honor has been infiltrated by a mountain of a man. That night Bison Smith made his unannounced arrival on the scene by interrupting the Rhett Titus/Sean Denny match and decimating both men. Unfamiliar to Ring of Honor, the fans in attendance still chanted Bison’s name as he brutalized the two athletes before ending it with a Bisontennial. It was certainly a way to leave a lasting first impression.
But Bison wasn’t done. Twenty-four hours later, at “Injustice II”, Smith again made his presence felt when he disrupted the Grizzly Redwood/Chris Escobar match and demolished the two wrestlers. Finished with his work, Bison left the same way he came, through the fans in attendance who chanted his name despite, or possibly because of, the carnage he left in his wake.
The questions started to pour out: Is Bison alone? Is he working for someone? What’s his purpose? What is he after? Well after Smith interrupted the Grizzly Redwood & Andy Ridge vs. Irish Airborne match and violently leveled all four men, ROH Locker Room Correspondent Kyle Durden attempted to get a word with the behemoth and was greeted with an angry reception himself. That “interview” can be seen in the ROH Video Wire from 2/3/09 here: http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=BsPQ4s5niwg.
Bison’s motives became very clear in Chicago Ridge the following night at the “Caged Collision” Pay-Per-View taping. That night Bryan Danielson, Austin Aries, Jimmy Jacobs, and Tyler Black competed in a Four Corner Survival for #1 Contendership to the ROH World Title. During the course of the match, Danielson ended up on the outside of the ring and Bison elected that moment to attack. Jumping Danielson as he recovered on the floor, Smith hoisted the former World Champion up in the air and powerbombed him on the floor with bone jarring force.
Rumors circulated that Danielson might not be able to compete six days later in Coral Spring, FL due to injuries sustained by Bison’s attack. Thankfully Bryan was able to, not only compete, but also to defeat Delirious & Jimmy Jacobs with Jerry Lynn as his partner. But as we heard in the most recent Video Wire (http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=aj9LkFwKi9Q), Danielson did indeed suffer a concussion from the powerbomb, but had been medically cleared to compete. He also vowed revenge for the assault.
The “Proving Ground ‘09” weekend also marked the first time Bison would compete in sanctioned ROH matches after officials had enough of his random assaults and decide to give him a chance to prove he deserved to be here. In response, Bison slaughtered Sal Rinauro on Friday and decimated John Kermon on Saturday, but he wasn’t done. During the phenomenal Danielson versus El Generico contest, Bison attempted to get involved but was cut-off by Bryan; that distraction served to be the opening Generico needed though as he secured the victory shortly thereafter with the Super Brainbuster. Smith immediately attacked and powerbombed Danielson again, before various members of the locker room interfered and pulled Bison off of Danielson.
No word has been given as of yet regarding the condition of Danielson following the second assault as that recent interview was taped in Coral Springs prior to Smith’s attack. We do know that Danielson will compete in Connecticut as well as at the HDNet TV Taping in Philadelphia, but that status of his concussion is currently up in the air.
As for Bison, questions still linger as to whether or not he’s working at the behest of someone else, but it is quite obvious who his target was from the outset. If Bison is just out to make a name in ROH, there’s not better way than to attempt to take out one of its figureheads. Answers won’t be forthcoming anytime soon as Bison is scheduled to be in Pro Wrestling NOAH during the upcoming events, but it may give Danielson piece of mind knowing he doesn’t have to look over his shoulder.
Hopefully these issues can be settled when Bison returns from Japan, because at the rate it’s escalating, Danielson’s health is starting to become questionable. Repeated concussions are obviously not conducive to athletic competition, and with a man the size of Bison Smith constantly on your tail, it’s hard to get sufficient time to recover. But Danielson will never back down from a fight, and Smith may live to regret his choice of targets. |

February 13th Newswire
February 13th: Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black. Nigel McGuinness and Jerry Lynn. These four men amount to two of the biggest feuds within the ranks of ROH. And now on February 27 in Danbury, all four men will be in the ring at the same time with the ROH World Title on the line. McGuinness will oppose two men, Black and Lynn that have recently taken him to his limit. Now add in the maniacal Jimmy Jacobs, and his bloodlust for Tyler Black, and you have all the makings of a classic. The match will start with all four men and it will be contested under elimination rules. Fans of Danbury get ready; this match is 100% worth the price of admission alone. Tickets are available (and sale priced) at www.rohwrestling.com.
February 13th: Also signed for ROH’s return to Danbury is a tag team match that pits the charismatic combination of “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus and Kenny King against Erick Stevens and the newly freed Bobby Dempsey! Dempsey is on a roll since gaining his liberty from Sweet-n-Sour Incorporated, and teaming with the powerful Erick Stevens has lead to success in the past. Meanwhile, Titus and King are equally impressive and even though they seem to care more about the ladies than their opponents, they are not to be taken lightly.
February 13th: ROH Officials have heard the comments of several fans as it pertains to the ring music used by Bryan Danielson. Rest assured that ROH has exhausted itself trying to find an economically feasible way to keep the loved “Final Countdown” playing at live events, on PPV, and on the upcoming HDNet Television Production. We, unfortunately, are at a standstill. Royalty fees are astronomical, and we need your help. If you are a musician, or know a great band, please email rohwayne@gmail.com. We know that music is a huge part of any event, ROH notwithstanding, and we want to do it right!
February 13th: The Triple Savings Sale is back at www.rohwrestling.com. There are three parts to this sale. The first is save 30% off all upcoming live ROH events. The second part of the sale includes over 60 DVD's priced at $5 or less. The final part of the sale allows you to take 15% Off Your Next Order. For complete details click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2151.
February 13th: We’ll be back next week with more names, and the first announced matches, for the 2/28 and 3/1 HDNet National Television Tapings in Philadelphia. |

WOOOOOOOOO!
Monday, February 16, 2009
Ring of Honor is proud to announce that it has signed a multi-event agreement with the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. His first appearance with the company will be in the St. Louis area on Friday, March 13th at the Gateway Center located at One Gateway Drive, Collinsville, IL 62234. Tickets for this historic event are now on sale at www.rohwrestling.com.
"Ric Flair is a legend in this industry and has been a huge influence on the careers of many Ring of Honor stars," said Ring of Honor president Cary Silkin. "The name ‘Flair’ has been synonymous with professional wrestling in the United States over the past 30 years, and it’s a wonderful privilege to have Ric appearing in Ring of Honor, adding his name to the list of legends that have set foot in the ROH ring. We agreed that the St. Louis area would be perfect for his first appearance in ROH because of his great wrestling history in that area. What could be a more wonderful way to say ‘thank you’ to those great St. Louis fans for supporting ROH than to bring the “Nature Boy” back to town one more time?"
Flair will be in the St. Louis area on March 13th for a special meet & greet autograph session that will be held from 6pm-8pm at The Gateway Center and he will also appear before the live crowd later that evening during the event. Autograph and show tickets are now on sale at www.rohwrestling.com. Autograph prices are $30 for the 1st item and $20 for each additional item to be signed. You can bring your own item or purchase Ric Flair merchandise at the building on the night of the show to get signed.
Please stay tuned to www.rohwrestling.com for more information on Ric Flair's appearance on March 13th along with additional events where you can meet the legendary “Nature Boy” in person! |

Three Challengers, One Title
Monday, February 16, 2009
It was recently announced that Nigel McGuinness would face one of the toughest tests of his championship reign in Danbury, CT on February 27th. That night the reigning ROH World Champion will have to step into the ring with three men he was faced before in Jerry Lynn, Tyler Black, and Jimmy Jacobs. Each man has come up short in their respective bids to become champion, but each man has taken Nigel to his limits in each of their opportunities. And after 15 months as champion, one has to wonder if McGuinness’ body is holding up as well as his ego. “My body is hurtin’, not gonna lie.” said McGuinness, “But concussions, torn muscles, and broken bones won’t stop me from going down as the greatest ROH champion ever. And none of those dogs nippin’ at my heels are going to stop me either. I’ve beaten Jeritol Lynn, Tylenol Black, and Jacobs before, now I’ll just beat ‘em all at the same time!” It’s not the first time McGuinness has had to defend his belt against three men at the same time either. Most recently at “The French Connection”, Nigel successfully retained the title in a match with Kevin Steen, El Generico, and Go Shiozaki, but he also accomplished the same feat at “Death Before Dishonor VI” against Bryan Danielson, Tyler Black, and Claudio Castagnoli. The odds are nothing new to him, but it’s questionable whether or not Nigel’s had to face them under so much pressure. The pressure of being champion as ROH heads into television, the pressure of creeping on Danielson’s record for successful defenses, and the pressure of facing three top shelf competitors in order to even taste the first two. Then again, McGuinness seems to thrive under pressure like no champion before him. That adversity is as much a driving force as is the desire to remain champion. It’s like Nigel’s need to infuriate the masses is as integral to his survival as champion as his mastery of the Jawbreaker Lariat. “Nigel’s an a**hole, plain and simple.” said Jerry Lynn, “Disrespectful, arrogant, and cruel, but I can never take away his talent. He’s kept that belt for this long because of how good he is inside that ring. But it’s weighing on him, and Danbury may be my chance to relieve him of that burden.” Lynn has had his fair share of experience with Nigel in the past few months since their classic ROH World Title match at “Southern Hostility”, and none of it has been positive. McGuinness has gone out of his way to run down Jerry, to make him question himself, and doubt his very existence as a wrestler. And as we’ve seen over the past few weeks with the Video Wire, it got to Lynn for a while. He has questioned what he was doing here in ROH, and in wrestling as a whole. But something seems different with Lynn as of late. Word has it his training regimen has increased drastically, and that he has refocused himself with his sights set on one thing: the ROH World Title. McGuinness better be wary. And then there’s Tyler Black, the uncrowned champion in many peoples eyes after the events of “Injustice II” in New Jersey. That night Tyler had the match won, McGuinness beaten, but due to some outside machinations, the bell on the 60-minute time limit rang apparently early, and Tyler was screwed out of his victory. If that’s not enough motivation for the young competitor, he will be standing across the ring from his former friend and ally, the man who stabbed him in the back, Jimmy Jacobs. There would be no sweeter revenge for Tyler than crushing Jacobs’s hopes of becoming champion by winning that title himself. “This is my opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.” said Black, “I get the title I know I should rightfully have, and put an end to Jimmy at the same time. February 27th may end up being the best day of my life.” And Jacobs, well he has always wanted to win the ROH World Title for the Age of the Fall because of the power he sees it bringing to his cause, but he was unsuccessful in his one opportunity at “The Tokyo Summit”. Now, with three other men involved in the match, Jacobs somehow sees the odds in his favor. “It doesn’t matter if it’s three or three hundred!” Jacobs commented, “I’ll let them destroy each other and then I’ll take the title we came to ROH for. But I’m not a fool, I know Tyler will be coming straight for me as soon as the bell rings, but unlike Tyler, I’m also not alone in the world. I still have the Age of the Fall, and he has NOTHING!” With three very determined, very driven wrestlers all gunning for the ROH World Title, Nigel McGuinness is in for one of the roughest nights of his wrestling life. But with another successful title defense in Danbury, CT, McGuinness will come one step closer to an immortality of sorts. His name creeps ever closer in the ROH records books to that of Samoa Joe (length) and Bryan Danielson (defenses). It becomes more and more difficult to deny McGuinness’ claims to being the best in the world, and it also becomes more and more questionable if there is anyone left in ROH who can beat the British-born champion. |
