So we've got the following 6 matches:
-Pick 6 Series Match: Delirious vs. Kenny King
-Pick 6 Series Match: Tyler Black vs. Sonjay Dutt
-Pick 6 Series Match: Colt Cabana vs. Claudio Castagnoli
-Pick 6 Series Match: Roderick Strong vs. Davey Richards
-Pick 6 Series Match: Chris Hero vs. Kenny Omega
-Pick 6 Series Match: Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Briscoe
Each winner gets $2,500 plus a title shot or position as one of the top 6 contenders to the belt. What's everyone think? |

| Does Delirious even understand the concept of money? |

| I still don't fully understand how it works but I like that it's something new, and will hopefully create new feuds and create more drama around the ROH title. |

I think it is a little too early to say.
What happens with the 6 winners? I believe they all become "contenders" but what does that mean? Do they all get title shots? Do they have to compete amongst each other to see who is best? A lot left to be explained.
The money. Will this even be acknowledged? I mean, I get the idea that it is a fair amount of money and worth "winning" but if there is no other context in which it is explained, then what was the point? |

| Perhaps some heels try to buy their way up the rankings? I could totally see Prince Nana doing something like that for Claudio. |

| One good thing about it is that instead of having one winner (like Survival of the Fittest), you've got six people who can lay claim to a title shot. |

From the main page:
quote: - Only wrestlers ranked in the “Pick 6” are eligible to challenge for the ROH World Championship.
- The higher a wrestler is seeded, the more leverage he has in determining the scheduling of championship matches.
- Wrestlers securing victories in “Pick 6” matchups earn a match bonus.
- Once the rankings are set, wrestlers can only enter the “Pick 6” Standings by defeating a ranked wrestler.
- An unranked wrestler that defeats a “Pick 6” Contender assumes that wrestler’s spot, and everyone lower slides down one rank. The lower a wrestler is ranked, the more they have to lose.

So it's the old top 5 rankings with a twist.
I take it this means that the A double L double is over then? |

One thing you didn't include is this tidbit:
"the winners being seeded by ROH officials from one-to-six"
So, with the 3 winners from last night and the 3 more from tonight, they will be ranked...yet it still remains unclear of how and why wrestler a would be ranked ahead of wrestler b and so on. |

Not sure how they'll do that but it could be as easy as just ranking them based on their win-loss record over the past year. |

The “Pick 6” Contenders Series Friday, November 06, 2009
Over the past several weeks, ROH officials and Executive Producer Jim Cornette have been working behind the scenes to address World Champion Austin Aries and his “Austin Aries Lucky Lottery”, which has been universally viewed as a farce, and ended with Tyler Black falling victim to a vicious fireball attack.
ROH officials unanimously agreed on the formation of a new and objective ranking system which would base championship matches on the merits of a competitor’s record, at the same time eliminating the chance for unfair or bogus title defenses, and creating a new sense of competition between wrestlers who are “climbing the ladder”.
It is with these ideals in mind that we are happy to proudly introduce the “Pick 6” Contenders Series.
To begin, twelve competitors have been selected by ROH on HDNet Executive Producer Jim Cornette to compete in six singles matches with the winners being seeded by ROH officials from one-to-six. Once the initial ranking is established, the “Pick 6” Contenders Series will function as follows:
- Only wrestlers ranked in the “Pick 6” are eligible to challenge for the ROH World Championship.
ROH officials are encouraged by the simplicity offered by this system and look forward to a establishing a new level of competition around the greatest prize in our sport – The Ring of Honor World Championship.

| Looks like a good concept. Should give more meaning to a lot of undercard matches. For example, Tyler Black vs. Kenny King on Saturday and possibly Jay vs. Claudio if Jay wins tonight. |

In the results I read on another site it said the first taping started with Cornette coming out an saying Aries will no longer be allowed to pick his own opponents, then introduced the Pick 6 concept. |

And that would be the "fair" way to do it, however would it just be their ROH on HDNet record or overall from all ROH events?
As you can see in the ongoing ROH 2009 thread, some records are not that toutable. |

| Pretty early to say for sure, but right now, I like the concept. Once it's setup, I like the idea of giving undercard matches more meaning. We could see a big upset and that person jumps into the Pick 6. I also like that people shift down. I wouldn't want one match to eliminate a guy from the Pick 6, unless he's the lowest ranked competitor. Also, I would assume if there are matches between ranked competitors, they might switch spots if the lower ranked wrestler beats the higher ranked wrestler. It's similar to the old Contender's trophy, mixed with the Top 5. Good stuff...interested to see how it plays out! |
