Newswire For The Week of July 26th
Tuesday, July 28, 2009

July 31st: In case you missed the announcement yesterday on the main page (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2927), old blood boils hot once again as Kevin Steen and El Generico will oppose Mark and Jay – The Briscoe Brothers – for the first time ever on National TV as ROH and HDNet tape another six weeks on August 14th and 15th at the Arena in South Philly.  Steen and Jay Briscoe had been working “together” while their partners were out with injuries – both suffered at the hands of the American Wolves, but once El Generico returned, Steen was quick to dissolve whatever partnership the rivals had forged.  Now with Mark Briscoe back and finding his ring legs again, it seems old habits never die, and these four will lock horns once more. Don’t forget that Steen and Generico have a title match at their disposal. Could a loss to the Briscoes derail their momentum?

July 31st: Austin Aries has pledged to defend the ROH World Title in August at the ROH on HDNet Tapings, but instead of signing one of several contracts laid out by the ROH Booking Committee, Aries has insisted on “giving someone the chance of a lifetime” by drawing a name blindly from a hat. ROH officials are skeptical at best of Aries’ intentions, but are taking him at his word that this defense will be up to ROH standards, as set by great champions of ROH’s past. To that end, one former ROH World Champion has been rather vocal about Aries and his latest stunt, and is closely watching to see what names are drawn by A Double.
