Legends Collide One Final Time
Tuesday, September 08, 2009
As was previously announced right here at www.rohwrestling.com, Nigel McGuinness has also agreed in principle to a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment, and will be taking his leave from Ring of Honor after “Glory by Honor VIII” alongside Bryan Danielson. As if that day wasn’t already destined to be historic, this announcement adds an additional reason why. Ring of Honor is happy to celebrate the careers that both of these men have had over the years, and we truly wish them well as they embark on the next phase of their lives.
In that spirit, ROH officials, with respect to both Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness, have made a change to the Glory By Honor VIII card on September 26th.
We are happy to announce, for the last time in ROH and for the first time since “Rising Above 2008”, Bryan Danielson will, for one final time in Ring of Honor, oppose his rival, Nigel McGuinness. This rivalry has become legendary in the annals of ROH history with epic matches at “Weekend of Champions, N.2”, “Unified”, “6th Anniversary”, and the aforementioned “Rising Above ‘08”. As a matter of fact, heading into this match, the two fighters hold a record of 3-3-2 against one another. New York could be the place where this deadlock gets broken as both men find this to be the perfect swan song to their ROH career.
“As much as I want to knock Aries out in the center of the ring,” said Danielson, “I realize that the chance to become champion is best served given to someone who will be available to defend the title. Given the situation, I won’t be able to do that, and I can’t think of a better way to give back to the ROH fans than by giving them one more chance to see me go toe-to-toe with the man who’s given me the hardest fight of my Ring of Honor career.”
“It’s the closing of one chapter of my life, mate,” McGuinness added. “But I’m not looking ta go out all warm and fuzzy like that Clamdigger Danielson. To hell with that and to hell with these fans, I can’t get away from them fast enough. But I’ll gladly take the opportunity to remind Danielson one last time who the better man is. From what I gather we’re all knotted up in our little series, three a piece I’m told, but what I remember is that the last time we danced it was ol’ McGuinness who beat ya. This time, Sunshine, I’m not just gonna beat ya…I’m gonna hurt ya.”
Regardless of how McGuinness feels, Ring of Honor and its fans will feel a bittersweet sorrow in saying goodbye to two pillars of ROH on the same night. Below is a look at the updated schedule for both men, and tickets are on sale for Philadelphia, Dayton, Chicago, & Boston right here at www.rohwrestling.com.
