They’ve gone back and forth for months now, beginning when Aries pinned Omega during the March 1st HDNet TV Tapings (the episode aired April 11th). That was followed up at “Stylin & Profilin” when Austin Aries once more pinned Kenny Omega in a Four Corner Survival match. Omega bounced back and scored a huge pin on Aries in a match at “The Hunt Begins” in front of Omega’s countrymen in Canada.
Omega, fresh off a tour of Japan, came into ROH’s return to Toronto for “Death Before Dishonor VII” weekend looking for a shot at Aries, who now held the ROH World Title, as a result of his April pinfall over the champ. Aries, pulling strings as always, argued that Omega hadn’t yet earned a shot and got ROH officials to put together a six man tag with Aries, Titus, & King against Omega and two partners of his choosing. The partners he found: Jay & Mark Briscoe! They took it to the champ and his protégés, and in the end it was once again Kenny Omega pinning the shoulders of “A Double” to the mat for the three count!
Since that match, Aries & Titus picked up a pinfall in Boston over Cabana & Omega when Rhett pinned Colt, and Aries and Omega have been separated since then, until now! ROH officials have declared that Austin Aries will meet Kenny Omega one-on-one when ROH debuts in Mississauga, ON on November 14th! And if Aries makes it past Davey Richards the night before with belt still in his possession, Omega WILL get a shot at the ROH World Title!
This is shaping up to be the most difficult weekend of Aries’ second ROH World Title reign with matches against Richards & Omega, and making it through Saturday night with the belt still in his possession will go a long way towards silencing the Aries’ critics since his attitude change late last year. It’s also the weekend that both Richards & Omega could cement their names in the history books as finally becoming World Champion!
