Tyler Black was signed to go one-on-one with Claudio Castagnoli in Dayton, OH on September 18th. As a result of his persistent neck injury, combined with fire flung into the face of Tyler by one Austin Aries, the confrontation never happened, and Castagnoli ended up on the losing end of a battle with Davey Richards.
Claudio, ever the arrogant Swiss, wrote off the neck injury as a mere excuse, and chalked it up to Tyler’s cowardice. As one can imagine, Black took incredible exception to this when informed of Castagnoli’s words and told ROH officials that taking on the former ROH World Tag Team Champion was one of his priorities as soon as he was healed from neck surgery, and cleared to return to action.
“Claudio’s got nerve,” said Black. “I’ll give him that much. But I think I’ve made it pretty clear that a coward is the last thing anyone could ever call me. I’m not one to back down from a challenge, or to just let someone question my guts and not stand up. You’ve got to learn Claudio that just because you’ve got the money, you can’t always afford to put it where your mouth is.”
Ring of Honor officials were quick to make this match after conferring with both men, and it will be held as part of ROH’s loaded debut at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, MI on November 13th! Black is looking to capitalize on his momentum from winning “Survival of the Fittest 2009” and get closer to the ROH World Title while Castagnoli is on the move to get into that World Title picture. A victory here is what both men need to get closer to their goals, and you can bet they will pull out all the stops to get that “W”.
