Ring of Honor is on the road once again this Saturday night! For the final time of 2013, we head back to The Du Burns Arena in Baltimore for a big live event that will feature TWO World Title matches, the third of Jimmy Jacobs' Trial Series matches, and more! Read on for the full line-up:
**MAIN EVENT** ROH World Tag Team Title Match
World Tag Team Champions reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly) defend vs. Jay Lethal & Michael Elgin
Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly, collectively known as reDRagon, are in the midst of their second reign as World Tag Team champions after defeating The American Wolves at “Manhattan Mayhem V”. That victory capped off what had been several weeks of “hot potato” for the tag team titles as reDRagon began the month of July as champions. Then we saw The Forever Hooligans claim them in Providence which was then followed up by Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards capturing them at “All Star Extravaganza V” before their aforementioned defeat in NYC.
And what started this series of events you ask?
Why it was the mouths of Fish & O'Reilly as they requested the Providence bout against Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov be changed from its scheduled Proving Ground stipulations into a World Tag Team Title defense!
Now it seems we are on the cusp of history repeating itself because, on October 5th, reDRagon will not only face off with “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin & Jay Lethal in a dream tag match but now, by champions request, the bout will be for the World Tag Team Titles!
“It shocked me when Bobby Fish & Kyle asked for this.” said Nigel McGuinness to, “I only planned this as a bit of a dream match for the fans but the champions demanded the belts be put on the line. I don't know if it's the smartest decision reDRagon has ever made. Last time they opened their mouths The Hooligans left Rhode Island with the tag titles but who am I to deny the champions what they want?”
In the main event of the evening, it will be a dream tag match pitting reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly) against Michael Elgin & Jay Lethal and, at the request of the champions, the World Tag Team Titles WILL be on the line! Will the ROH Faithful in Baltimore see a repeat of Providence?
ROH World TV Title Match
Matt Taven w/ Truth Martini defends vs. Cedric Alexander
As we saw several weeks ago in the video above, Truth Martini is pushing his man to step up and get more serious about his championship reign. That motivation, plus a helping hand or two, led to Taven defeating both Davey Richards & Roderick Strong last Saturday night at “A New Dawn”. Now, for the second weekend in a row, Taven will have to defend his TV Title against an unlikely challenger in Cedric Alexander. Cedric has spent a majority of his ROH career in tag team competition but has recently stepped up his game in singles bouts against men like Kyle O'Reilly and Davey Richards and show he has all the potential to excel. Now, because of Martini's insistence that Taven defend the belt as much as possible, Alexander will get an opportunity to really break out if he can claim the World Television Champion from Taven who is entering his seventh month as champion.
Jimmy Jacobs Trial Series Match #3
Michael Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis vs. Jimmy Jacobs
He defeated Silas Young in Philly, fell to Kevin Steen in Hopkins, now Jimmy Jacobs will enter into his third Trial Series bout in Baltimore and this one may be the most emotional of the group. As we all know, it was the piledriver from Michael Bennett at “All Star Extravaganza V” that ultimately led to BJ Whitmer's announcing his retirement at “Death Before Dishonor XI”. It was also BJ Whitmer, despite their bloody and violent history, who is directly responsible for Nigel McGuinness allowing Jimmy back into the fold. Now, for the first time since the very first SBG ROH TV Tapings, Jacobs will step into the ring with the man responsible for ending BJ's career: Michael Bennett. Since that night in Toronto, Bennett went to war with Tommaso Ciampa in the World Title Tournament, defeated both members of The American Wolves in singles competition, and stepped up to Kevin Steen in Philadelphia and at “A New Dawn”.
- Adam Page vs. "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards
Coming off a loss to Bennett, Eddie Edwards will step into the ring with the young, but impressive, Adam Page in a one-on-one collision. Page is still earning his stripes here in ROH and despite a quick victory over RD Evans at “Death Before Dishonor XI”, he still has quite a lot to prove. This bout will no doubt test the limits of the young competitor as Edwards is the first Triple Crown Champion in ROH History, a Survival of the Fittest winner, and one of the toughest men to ever lace up the boots. Page will have his work cut out for him...
- ACH vs. Kevin Steen
Just looking at his bouts with Michael Elgin and Karl Anderson you can see ACH is no stranger to facing off with the big men. In both of those bouts ACH fought with every bit of heart he could muster and nearly pulled off major upsets each time. Now the high-flying sensation finds himself in a similar situation as he squares off with Kevin Steen for the very first time. Steen, who reigned as one of the most dominant champions in ROH history for nearly a year, is hot to find a way back into the title picture after his tournament loss to Michael Elgin and racking up victories is the best way to accomplish that goal. Yet after defeating Jimmy Jacobs in Hopkins, Kevin fell victim to Michael Bennett's devastating piledriver and one has to wonder if that will have any lingering effects heading into Baltimore?
Four Corner Survival Match
Tadarius Thomas vs. Caprice Coleman vs. Antonio Thomas vs. Roderick Strong
It has been an ROH staple for many years and now the Four Corner Survival is coming to Baltimore! One grizzled ROH veteran will square off with one man looking to make his way into the spotlight and two others who have been largely been embedded in tag team competition. Roderick Strong, Mister ROH himself, will take on Tadarius Thomas, Caprice Coleman, and Antonio Thomas in this one-fall bout that has been known to get crazy from time to time. Will it be the physical assault of a Triple Crown Champion, the Capoeira stylings of TD, the veteran experience of Coleman, or the relatively unknown commodity in Thomas that picks up the victory?
- Outlaw Inc. (Eddie Kingston & Homicide) vs. Monster Mafia (Josh Alexander & Ethan Page)
Monster Mafia made their highly-demanded ROH debut in Hopkins last Saturday against the stiffest competition imaginable in World Tag Team Champions reDRagon. Their effort was impressive but ultimately Alexander & Page came up short in their attempt to shock the world. Now they will get another chance in Baltimore as they square off with two men who have been chasing the dragon since “Manhattan Mayhem V”: Outlaw Inc! Eddie Kingston and former ROH World Champion Homicide have been breaking fingers and causing chaos since they day Talent Scout Prince Nana unleashed them on ROH and they won't stop until they get a World Tag Team Title opportunity. Monster Mafia better be on guard for the unpredictable violence they could ensue...
And you can expect ROH World Champion Adam Cole, coming off a successful first title defense at “A New Dawn”, to be in the house for what we are told will be a very special interview!
