The enigmatic Detroit native has been entertaining fans in Ring of Honor with his unique offense for more than a decade.

Alex Shelley initially made his mark in ROH in 2004 as part of the controversial Generation Next along with Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Jack Evans. The group claimed to be “The Best Ring of Honor has to offer.” Shelley later was a member of The Embassy, a group guided by Prince Nana.

Shelley found his greatest success after forming The Motor City Machine Guns with Chris Sabin.

They first joined forces in 2006 in Japan’s Pro Wrestling Zero1-Max, where they captured the promotion’s International Lightweight Tag Team Championship and successfully defended it for more than a year and a half.

They began teaming in ROH in 2007 and  made an impact there as well as in other promotions in the U.S. and Japan.

In 2009, The Motor City Machine Guns defeated Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro to win the prestigious IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom III in the Tokyo Dome. The following year Shelley and Sabin were named Tag Team of the Year by
Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

After amicably parting ways with Sabin, Shelley went to Japan and teamed up with New Japan Pro Wrestling Star Kushida. Known as The Time Splitters, Shelley and Kushida used their dazzling speed and chemistry to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship twice.

The Time Splitters competed in ROH on occasion, unsuccessfully challenging for the ROH World Tag Team Championship against ReDRagon (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly) at Final Battle 2014, and losing to The Briscoes at Field of Honor in 2015.

During the latter part of 2015, Shelley revealed himself to be the man under the Knights of The Rising Dawn mask who had been interfering in The Addiction’s matches. Shelley’s former tag partner, Sabin, was an associate of The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian).

The situation came to a head on the ROH 14th Anniversary pay-per-view in February 2016. During a match between Shelley and Daniels, Sabin neutralized an interfering Kazarian, allowing Shelley to pick up the victory.

Shelley and Sabin embraced after the match to make the reunion of The Motor City Machine Guns official.
